Rising to the Challenge: Position Responsibilities

Research new market ingredient and equipment innovations, focusing on:

  • New concept design/product development
  • Product betterment/increased consumer value
  • Raw material sourcing and improvements
  • Snack product shelf life from eating quality and food safety standpoint
  • Clean label ingredients
  • Flavor chemistry
  • Develop improvements for products and processes
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Develop and execute technical plans
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Lead scale-up of lab concepts to full production
  • Mentor scientists and lab technicians
Knead to Know: Required Qualifications

Must have 2 years of experience in job offered or as Research Scientist. Must have 2 years of experience (may be gained concurrently with the above experience) with a food/baking company performing the following duties:

  • Food product development
  • Researching raw material understanding / improvements
  • Developing operational improvements in the industrial processes relating to bakery products
  • Genesis nutritional software
  • Utilizing analytical techniques and equipment including texture analysis, pH, moisture, rheology, and water activity, Microscopy, NIR, and HPLC
  • Excel, Powerpoint

Must have working knowledge of the following:

  • Dough rheology, fermentation and the baking process
  • Ingredient categories such as grains, flours, starches, hydrocolloids, enzymes, sweeteners, fibers, proteins, lipids, oxidation, emulsifiers, preservatives and leavening agents
  • Industrial process relating to bakery and/or food products
  • Equipment understanding of mixers, dividers, proofers and ovens
  • Hydrocolloid application
  • Starch chemistry
  • Regulatory knowledge of food industry
  • Nutrition
Additional Ingredients: Job Requirements
  • MS in Cereal Chemistry, Bakery Science, Food Science, or related field required.

Job location: Telecommute from Johnstown, CO metropolitan area; required weekly onsite meetings at Johnstown, CO office. 30% travel to unanticipated domestic locations; 10% travel to unanticipated locations in Canada. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training or experience. Employer: Flowers Bakeries, LLC. Salary range: $109,928.00-$109,928.00. Benefits include: bonus incentive compensation, 401(k) with an employer match up to 6%, & an additional 8% contribution to 401(k), 10 paid holidays, unlimited PTO, medical, dental, vision insurance, flexible spending & health savings accounts-with employer contribution, company paid long-term care insurance, Life/AD&D insurance, short-term & long-term disability, & legal support, & cancer, hospital, & accident insurance, EAP, tuition reimbursement, & paid family and medical leave.
