About the Job

This is a leadership position accountable for guiding a small training services team to deliver impactful learning materials to users of the University of Minnesota's HR Systems. This role offers a unique combination of a supervisory and leadership opportunity coupled with the chance to work directly as a professional instructional designer. This position will be responsible for designing engaging and effective learning experiences in a variety of formats to support users of the HR systems at the University of Minnesota.

This is a hybrid position.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

HR Systems Training - 60%

  • Develops the training strategy and oversees HR systems and process training.
  • Applies adult learning theory and evidence-based instructional design practices to all training materials and delivery methods.
  • Oversees training course development, design, and delivery, including enrollment strategies, alignment of prerequisite training pathways, auditing frameworks for training records, and the continuous improvement of learning materials to support organizational goals.
  • Develops and continuously enhances engaging learning resources and system guides using a learner-centered approach.
  • Partners with subject matter experts to explore new and existing HR technologies, creates relevant learning solutions, and ensures timely, accurate updates to training materials that reflect evolving user needs.
  • Initiates, leads, implements, and evaluates training projects.
  • Maintains knowledge of training industry best practices and how to apply them to the HR technologies training strategy.

Leadership - 30%

  • Manages a team of instructional designers and other learning professionals, including assigning projects and tasks, monitoring workloads and resources, providing ongoing feedback and development, and delivering performance reviews.
  • Provides strong, dynamic leadership that coaches, mentors, develops, and guides team members to deliver results against a defined scope of work that includes measurable goals and employee development

Other - 10%

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Workforce Data Management and Senior Leadership.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Human Resources, Adult Education, Instructional Design, or related field, plus at least six years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with instructional design, training, user support, and technical writing
  • Experience creating technology-related support documentation
  • Strong management, relationship-building and coaching skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with multiple and diverse constituencies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with a human resources management system (HRMS)
  • Experience managing multiple projects in complex environments
  • Experience designing and managing training programs in a Learning Management System like Absorb, Sana, Canvas, or Moodle
  • Experience with design and authoring tools, including Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, and the Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Experience maintaining web content via Content Management Systems like Drupal
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $82,500-$93,600 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
