Assistant Director of Jewish Life
Job Summary UCSF seeks a dedicated Jewish Life Specialist to support Jewish students, faculty, staff, patients, and allies, promote an inclusive campus and healthcare environment, and address antisemitism and cultural awareness within the university and health system.
This position will develop programs, provide advocacy, and ensure Jewish cultural and religious needs are recognized across campus and in hospital settings. The Specialist will work closely with students, hospital chaplains, medical staff, and community partners to foster awareness, combat antisemitism, and improve patient care for Jewish individual. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $87,900 - $187,700 (Annual Rate). The Office of Diversity and Outreach (ODO) serves as the campus leader in building diversity in all aspects of the UC San Francisco mission through ongoing assessment, development of new programs, and building consensus. We collaborate with the four professional schools, the Graduate Division, and the medical centers to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion across UCSF.
The Vice Chancellor's Office of Diversity and Outreach (VCDO) includes oversight for the Center for Science Education and Outreach, Climate and Belonging, Disability, LGBT, Multicultural and CARE Resource Centers, the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response, and the direct administrative office of the Vice Chancellor of Diversity and Outreach.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Jewish student, staff, and/or faculty engagement, antidiscrimination, hospital chaplaincy, or antisemitism education
- Strong knowledge of Jewish history, traditions, and contemporary issues, especially in healthcare and higher education.
- Experience working with Jewish patients and families in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work may impact other areas.
- Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong presentation skills.
- Thorough knowledge of delivering training programs and thorough knowledge of other areas of human resources.
- Strong skills to conduct needs assessment and development of new training courses to meet organizational needs.
- Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
- Strong skills in planning, resourcing and monitoring effective delivery of training.
- Thorough knowledge of training and development, performance management and workplace learning. Ability to apply knowledge to achieve successful organizational outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Jewish Studies, Religious Studies, Sociology, Public Health, Diversity and Inclusion, or a related field
- Background in student affairs, pastoral care, hospital chaplaincy, or patient advocacy.
- Familiarity with Jewish medical ethics and cultural considerations in healthcare and science.
- Experience working in health sciences, research, or medical education environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively across university departments, health system staff, and community partners.
- Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and education methodologies.
- Thorough knowledge of current training programs and trends.
- Thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
