We are seeking a dynamic Manager of New Business Development & Market Research to drive growth beyond our core business categories. This role focuses on identifying, evaluating, and securing new opportunities to significantly increase Epson's revenues and diversify our business. You will help us enter high-growth sectors leveraging our strengths through organic growth, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships

Core Responsibilities and Duties

  • Identify, evaluate, prioritize and advance potential growth opportunities in new sectors
  • Conduct thorough market analyses, including market sizing / growth forecasting, identifying main structure and dynamics as well as key industry trends, customer segmentation, competitive assessments, opportunity and risk assessments
  • Identify and rank potential entry opportunities (acquisition vs. partnerships vs. organic growth), including by size and revenue of the opportunity, estimated time to market, proximity to Epson's core capabilities and potential risk factors
  • Research and due diligence on potential acquisition or partnership candidates and then initiate discussions, negotiate with the most promising candidates and manage the ongoing interactions with these potential partners
  • Lead and manage market opportunity projects from start-to-finish - able to take initial general concepts of potential opportunities and convert them to structured projects with clearly defined steps, target timeframes and deliverables
  • Manage and develop a junior new business analyst and market research specialist to gather and analyze the necessary information to evaluate market opportunities and potential partners
  • Prepare and deliver concise and effective presentations to senior executives, with clear recommendations
  • Engage, evaluate and then regularly manage third party consultants, as needed, to ensure their work and deliverables are on target with the desired objectives for the project

Requirements

  • MBA degree preferred (completion of a Master's degree or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience in growth strategies, market assessments, M&A advisory work or strategic partnership development within corporations, consulting firms or M&A advisory companies
  • Ideal candidate has 3 years with a growth strategy-focused management consulting firm and 4 years doing similar work within a corporation or M&A Advisory firm
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking skills, with a track record of identifying, evaluating and helping companies successfully enter new business categories via acquisitions or strategic partnerships. Healthy balance of being a creative thought leader, yet also a pragmatic thinker.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and networking skills, with the ability to approach and engage potential partners and interact with senior executives and stakeholders
  • Proven financial modeling skills, including experience sizing market opportunities and quantifying potential revenues and costs associated with pursuing them.
  • Proven experience managing and developing at least 1-2 analysts to gather and analyze the necessary information to identify and vet potential growth opportunities
  • Experience planning and conducting research interviews with executives/professionals and/or overseeing a market research contractor to do this work. Previous work experience with a market research company is a plus
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, able to work independently and with a high sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Solid project management skills, with the ability to structure a project into components and manage the process through each stage to successful completion.

Location
This position will be based out of Epson America's headquarters in Los Alamitos, with a flexible hybrid schedule.

Travel
Most of the work will be at Epson America headquarters in Los Alamitos, California, but some travel is expected, potentially up to 20% of the time, primarily to research potential opportunities and meet with industry experts, potential partners and acquisition candidates.

The starting annual base pay for this role is between USD $144,350 and $ 201,781. Please note that this position's salary range may include multiple levels. The actual base is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
