Overview

Mayville Engineering Company (MEC) is seeking a hands-on Lean Engineer to join our MBX (Mayville Business Excellence) Team, supporting our manufacturing sites across Wisconsin. In this role, you'll lead impactful Kaizen events, coach Lean practices on the shop floor, and deliver measurable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Reporting to the Director of Lean & Continuous Improvement, the Lean Engineer will be responsible for executing Lean initiatives that eliminate waste, optimize performance, and strengthen MEC's culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

    Kaizen Leadership Plan and lead Kaizen events across sites-including high-visibility President's Kaizens-with a focus on cost savings, productivity gains, and process optimization.
  • Cost Improvement Focus Identify, implement, and track cost reduction opportunities using Lean tools and structured problem-solving. Own the validation and communication of financial results to site and executive leadership.
  • 6S Leadership Deploy and sustain 6S (5S + Safety) practices across all work areas. Conduct audits and coach teams to continuously improve workplace organization and efficiency.
  • Strategy Deployment Support deployment of MEC's strategic goals through Hoshin Kanri, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), and Lean roadmaps to guide and prioritize improvement efforts.
  • Lean Capability Development Coach and mentor associates, leads, and supervisors on core Lean tools including PDCA, root cause analysis, Gemba walks, and visual management systems.
  • Standardization & Best Practices Develop and roll out standardized work, visual controls, and best practices to ensure process consistency and sustainability across departments.
  • Performance Monitoring Track and analyze KPIs and Lean project milestones. Proactively identify trends and improvement opportunities, and support root cause countermeasures where gaps are found.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with operations, engineering, quality, and leadership teams to remove roadblocks, align priorities, and reinforce a strong Lean culture.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering - or equivalent practical experience in Lean Manufacturing
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in Lean manufacturing or process improvement roles
  • Proven ability to lead multiple improvement projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated success delivering cost savings and measurable operational improvements
  • Direct experience facilitating Kaizen events and deploying 5S/6S systems
  • Strong knowledge of Lean tools: VSM, Standard Work, PDCA, A3 problem-solving, visual management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with Power BI, Visio, or AutoCAD is a plus
  • Willingness to travel 20%-40% (mostly within Wisconsin).
  • Candidate should be located in Wisconsin. Primary location can be Mayville, Fond du Lac, Beaver Dam, or Neillsville.
