We are looking for a Cost Accountant to manage standard cost accounting and reporting, monthly inventory close, inventory reserves, bill of materials, and cost analysis to maintain accurate costing data and procedures. Will also liaison with manufacturing operations and financial staff, as required.

The position is based in Thomasville, GA, where Pursuit Aerospace employs approximately 150 people and generates $40 million in annual revenue. Reporting directly to the Materials Manager, this position plays a vital role in driving operational success.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Updates and maintains records for the labor and overhead rates, and bills of materials and routings to ensure product costs are accurate and accounted for properly
  • Audits bills of materials and routings ensure bill of material and costing accurately reflect production operations and perform time studies
  • Ensures timely and accurate input of price changes
  • Ensures the accuracy of inventory and reported results and assists with the inventory cycle counts
  • Calculates and maintains the inventory reserves files
  • Reviews labor reporting and costs, material costs, manufacturing overheard, freight costs, and returns
  • Maintains accurate cost accounting records correcting any errors and discrepancies as required each month by performing analysis, taking corrective actions, and/or making recommendations to management
  • Ensures that all financial transactions, transmissions, and reporting are completed on a timely basis and are accurate
  • Assists with benchmarking, key performance indicators, dash boards for measuring financial and operating performance, and with complex decision-making initiatives
  • Supports management on plant production and costing issues, provides recap with actions to be taken, and assists with operations meetings as necessary
  • Assists with documentation, procedures and other workflows, analyzing purchasing contracts costs components, analyzing costs initiatives and cost efficiencies, and with the yearend inventory physical counts
  • Updates and maintains the tooling amortization files and monthly journal entries
  • Ensures adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls
  • Helps prepare forecasts, annual and strategic plans, pro forma, and other financial scenarios
  • Supports monthly and yearend close, yearend audit, journal entries, account analysis, and reconciliations including intercompany
  • Performs special projects
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Required Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting in a manufacturing environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to stay current with changes in GAAP
  • Knowledge of financial statement preparation
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
  • Proficiency in Excel skills, including v-lookup, index/match, pivot tables, sorting, filtering, and formatting
  • Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to research technical accounting issues
  • Effective interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail skills with the ability to execute accurate transactions
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, preferably in aerospace industry

Working Conditions:

  • You'll spend time in both office and production environments, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Other than safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes, additional personal protective equipment generally not required.
  • May be required to lift up to 10 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Weekend and evening work may be required to accommodate priorities, deadlines, and schedules.
