The Manager Corporate Counsel is responsible for assisting the Senior Director, Assistant General Counsel in a variety of legal areas and internal clients. These legal areas include patient accessibility laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Civil Rights Act of 1968; State and Federal records retention schedules; and Federal and State healthcare laws including, but not limited to Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, and HIPAA. The Manager, Corporate Counsel will support internal clients that include a software as a service business line and a business line that provides dialysis on site at skilled nursing facilities (DSD).

DUTIES:

  • Research, analyze, and provide advice on federal, state, and local laws related to disability and civil rights.
  • Manage and respond to internal, external and government inquiries regarding patient civil rights and accommodations.
  • Oversee, draft, and manage the policies, and procedures that are relevant to laws and regulations pertaining to civil rights protections, disabilities, and accommodations.
  • Draft, review, and analyze SaaS agreements.
  • Create scalable strategies for providing state research and advise for growing DSD business.
  • Provide advice on records retention and IT migration of records.
  • Perform special assignments as needed.
  • Support and collaborate with other areas of the JLD and compliance, as needed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • J.D. degree and a minimum of three years of legal experience in a mix of operations,corporate law and health care law; state bar passage and good standing.
  • Candidates must possess in-house and/or law firm experience representing business clients.
  • General understanding of relevant health care laws and regulations (i.e., Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Medicare Conditions for Coverage).
  • Understanding of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and civil rights laws and regulations a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Effective human relations abilities:
    • Ability to effect collaborative alliances and promote teamwork
    • Ability to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction both internally and externally
    • Effective persuasion and negotiation skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to work closely with healthcare providers and all levels of management, administration, and leadership
  • Effective leadership skills which demonstrate the ability to participate in innovation and change, strategic thinking, and problem solving.
  • Superior communication skills in both written and verbal presentation, including all aspects of legal writing technique and procedure, and the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
  • Ability to function effectively and complete projects in a timely manner in a fast-paced and changing environment with multiple priorities and objectives.
