Lone Star College-System Office employees are based at one of two System Office locations; The Woodlands and University Park. Both are the site for multiple administrative departments and system-wide training programs.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Developer II, Analytics examines and analyzes the business and technical processes for Office of Analytics & Institutional Reporting (AIR), determines relationships, makes recommendations, and implements reporting automation using Microsoft business intelligence (BI) tools. Develops analyses and dashboards to meet LSC internal and external reporting needs. Under direction of supervisor, provides training, technical support, and research and resolve known problems. Under direction of supervisor, interfaces with OTS personnel to resolve AIR technical and implementation questions and issues. This position is a member of a global 24/7 information technology team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Designs and develops Power BI (PBI) and SSRS analyses and dashboards including graphs and charts
  2. Develops and modifies SQL statements for extraction of data
  3. Develops automated reports
  4. Assists users with building and tuning reports
  5. Troubleshoots problems and performs product testing/diagnosis to pinpoint nature of problem
  6. Contributes to team strategy for business intelligence development and implementation
  7. Plans and conducts report testing and data validation
  8. Provides second-level customer support for BI analytics and dashboards
  9. Develops and maintains position-related training and succession purposes
  10. Responds to analytics or dashboard requests and malfunctions
  11. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Power BI, Microsoft SSRS or related BI development tools
  • Ability to develop analytics and dashboards to meet written specifications
  • Ability to communicate with users having diverse technical skills and backgrounds
  • Ability to write or modify analytic-related SQL
  • Ability to analyze data independently
  • Functional knowledge of business process analysis and documentation methodology
  • Knowledge of business intelligence development life cycle
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of software/hardware and service delivery management
  • Ability to work on several task simultaneously while delivering quality customer service

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • Responds to analytics or dashboard requests and malfunctions on call 24/7
  • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
  • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary
  • May need to work weekends and outside of core business hours if necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of directly related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years using Microsoft Power BI, SSRS, Qlik, Tableau or related software
  • At least 2 years writing SQL queries
  • At least 2 years analyzing data and business processes
  • Experience with higher education data
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions
  • Experience querying Oracle databases
  • Experience using HTML to modify dashboard appearance
Salary

Hiring salary range is $69,679 to $80,131.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer. The information outlined below will provide the Office of Human Resources everything needed to determine an accurate starting salary.
