The College of Design offers comprehensive undergraduate and graduate study of architecture, graphic and experience design, industrial design, media arts, design and technology, and graduate studies in landscape architecture, a Ph.D. in Design and a Doctor of Design. The college employs a selective admissions process that ensures a highly motivated and diverse design community. As a result, entering design students consistently rank at the top of academic achievement at the university. The Development and External Relations office advances the mission of the College of Design by effectively communicating its academic excellence and impact on society, building relationships with external constituencies, and enhancing its resources. |
Essential Job Duties |
This position is responsible for assisting in tasks related to carrying out objectives of the NC State Design Office of Development and External Relations, which include fundraising, donor and alumni relations, gift processing, volunteer management, scholarships, special events, and communications. This position utilizes best practices in development and program planning and procedures.
Primary tasks of the Development & External Relations Assistant include but are not limited to the following:
Gift Management, Fund Management and Donor Stewardship:
- Gift reporting
- Gift processing
- Generation of gift acknowledgement letter and other donor stewardship
- Gift agreements
- Electronic and physical file management
- Data analysis and reports
- Fund management
- Work closely with the assistant director on stewardship efforts
Events assistance:
Support events led by the Development and External Relations Team and college up through:
- Catering arrangements
- Invitations and list generation
RSVP list management- Set-up and event logistics
Office and team administration:
- Office administration
- Budget administration
- Support Leaders Council efforts through communication, monthly meetings, logistics, etc.
- Purchase card administration
- Travel administration, including travel authorizations and reimbursements
- Serve as additional reception for the dean's suite to greet visitors.

Other Responsibilities |
Ability and willingness to travel, as requested.
Attend weekend and evening events, as needed.
Serve on the development and external relations team and may be assigned additional development and communications tasks as needed.
Assist with reception in the dean's suite
Other duties as assigned. |
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, or similar software
- Ability to use Gmail and Google applications
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong team player skills and ability to maintain a positive and optimistic attitude
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds while setting-up special event premises or other occasions, with or without reasonable accommodation
- This position will be responsible for attending events and transporting necessary materials to events.

- At least 1-3 years' experience in similar development office environment, preferably higher education or nonprofit
- Experience with Advance
- Experience with Wolf Reports
- Proficiency with Adobe applications
