HJF is seeking an Epidemiologist II to provide epidemiological and biostatistical support for pediatric health research studies. This position will support the Divisions of Health Systems Research and Clinical Epidemiology and Military Child & Family Research, within the Department of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University. Project work includes the analysis of perinatal health outcomes associated with malaria prophylactic medication exposure, as well as quality outcomes of pregnancy in the intensive care unit environment across the US Military Health System.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. Responsibilities

  • Initiates, designs, and implements epidemiological studies in support of assigned research projects.
  • Conducts descriptive and multivariable statistical analyses, and prepares corresponding tables and figures.
  • Reviews and contributes to project proposals, protocols, internal guidelines, and periodic reports with respect to design, analytic approach, and/or reporting.
  • Works to expand Divisional funding opportunities by seeking out, drafting and submitting grant proposals in collaboration with other team members. May serve as Principal Investigator on studies with requisite degree and institutional requirements met.
  • Provides ongoing evaluation of project progress, working to proactively identify bottlenecks and propose and implement solutions.
  • Prepares high quality abstracts, presentations and manuscripts for dissemination.
  • Provides epidemiologic support and learning opportunities for internal working groups.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree required. PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology or similar degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required. May substitute relevant years of educational experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and ability to use and teach complex epidemiologic research methods for assessing the risk of disease in humans due to potential risk factors.
  • Excellent knowledge of advanced multivariable statistical methods.
  • Strong SAS skills required. Experience with other packages such as R, STATA, ArcGIS preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Military Health System strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with ICD-9 and 10 coding and manipulation of large datasets preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a clinical setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $73,800 - $95,000 Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
