JOB SUMMARY
UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Payment Specialist I to join our dynamic and fast-paced Revenue Cycle team. Works under general supervision and is responsible for the accuracy of facts and/or figures posted to patients, company and suspended and/or pending accounts. Researches and investigates accounts when posting payments from patients, insurance companies, government insurance and other third-party carriers. In this essential role, you will support the financial operations of the medical center by indexing correspondence letters and accurately interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs). As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the seamless flow of financial processes, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing while maintaining a high standard of customer service. Shift: 8-hour flex schedule, Monday thru Friday. Must begin by 9am each workday.

Work From Home (WFH) This is a potential work from home position. Applicant must live within the State of Texas. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Index and organize correspondence letters from patients, insurance companies, and other stakeholders.
  • Interpret and analyze Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to identify payment discrepancies and ensure accurate payment posting.
  • Assist with the resolution of payment issues, including insurance denials and billing discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and company policies.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure efficient and accurate payment processing and revenue cycle management.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing payment inquiries and helping resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Education
    High School Diploma or equivalent


  • Experience
    2 years hospital/medical office payment posting or bookkeeping experience


JOB DUTIES



  • Posts payments received from insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, patients, etc., to invoices which may involve: a) Research any payment application problems; b) Verifying all documents received; c) Takes appropriate corrective action including contacting insurance companies, patients and/or other insurance carriers to resolve questions to which invoice a payment should be posted; d) Updating the Financial Status Classification (FSC) of a patient; e) Preparing journal vouchers and f) Generating invoices.
  • Analyzes automatic processes for correctness and posts all edits and rejects as required. Interacts with Supervisor and Group Leader in assuring data is accurate and submitted in accordance with processing deadlines.
  • Posts rejected and pre-post edits manually for payments received electronically with knowledge of electronic positing and reconciliation process.
  • Research problem accounts in order to properly post payments. Elevates appropriate posting issues to Group Leader or Supervisor.
  • Balances all batches and resolves discrepancies.
  • Proper posting of critical company accounts, transplant, research, and complex IA accounts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
