OPERATIONS ENGINEER (FALCON)

The Falcon Program team directs the full Falcon department in the definition of top-level goals, creation of and iteration on a strategic operating plan to meet those goals, and tracking of metrics that assist in continual reevaluation of how best to steer the program. As an Operations Engineer in the Falcon program, you will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment to drive complex trades that have huge impact on the steer of the Falcon as a whole. You will take inputs from all aspects of the program (supply chain, production, test, launch, finance, sales, mission management, etc.) and provide data-driven recommendations on numerous topics ranging from flight hardware inventory levels and spare strategy, to headcount and resource balancing, to CapEx and financial trades, and more. You will apply principles of operations engineering, industrial engineering, and data analytics to a complex set of problems, with your deliverables being presented to an audience that is primarily executives and top program leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Define top-level goals of the Falcon program, identify challenges and threats to accomplishing those goals, and own data-driven characterization and resolution of those threats
  • Establish a deep understanding of Falcon operations through build/test/launch and the key health metrics for each of those areas
  • Conduct operations engineering at a strategic level by optimizing resources, schedules, and risk under uncertainty across the Falcon Program's top-level metrics
  • Manage projects and execute to tight timelines while effectively communicating to and influencing stakeholders
  • Standardize and simplify burden of common interfaces to partner groups (supply chain, production, test launch, finance, sales, mission management) to reduce signal to noise ratio and recurring administrative burden
  • Seek out, prioritize, and execute improvement opportunities to ensure continuous business scalability and enable ambitious growth targets through process and system engineering
  • Capture best practices of business systems and manage / apply organizational knowledge and lessons-learned across supported teams
  • Drive standardization of labor analysis & forecasting (assumptions, methodology, tools) and assist teams in their headcount planning, efficiency roadmaps and demand forecasting
  • Partner with support function peers, managers, and executives to provide analytical value and support, particularly focusing on developing and exercising capabilities to tell stories with visualization of data


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, manufacturing, mathematics, or physics
  • 1+ years of experience in an operations, manufacturing, and/or consulting environment


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Proficiency in data analytics and automation; to include SQL, Power BI, Python/R, and Excel for analysis or modeling dynamic systems
  • Proficiency with statistics, data analysis, cost/benefit analysis, and visualization
  • Project management experience in high consequence/low margin engineering systems
  • Experience with CAD software, power BI, and discrete event modeling tools
  • Experience with inventory, production, and capacity planning (including MRP/ERP systems)
  • Experience as an industrial, operations, process or manufacturing engineer in a developmental environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, high stress environments
  • Unfazed by major, abrupt changes in strategic direction
  • Demonstrated ability in drafting executive communications
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with a wide range of people with positive attitude
  • Strong communicator, curiosity driven and openness to receive and provide feedback


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Must be available to work long hours and weekends as needed
  • Willing to travel to various SpaceX sites (up to 10%)


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:

Operations Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year

Operations Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
