JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Office of Physical Plant is searching for a full time Refrigeration Technician to join their team. Duties include:

  • Service, maintain, repair, install and replace domestic and commercial refrigeration, air cooling equipment, absorption and centrifugal liquid chilling units, refrigerated laboratory equipment and their auxiliary components
  • Run gas lines and other lines involved
  • Install, service, maintain and repair controls and devices to include electric, pneumatic, electronic, thermostatic, pressure, flow switches, level controls, etc., on listed units and auxiliary components
  • Dismantle units and auxiliary equipment; determine extent of repairs and replace worn or defective parts; determine, schedule and perform cleaning of units such as interiors of condensers, strainers, evaporators, interiors and exteriors of cooling water towers, etc.
  • Perform routine schedule maintenance on units and their auxiliary components; lubricate specified points and make various adjustments
  • Maintain logs and records as required and ensure proper amounts of gas and cooling agents are maintained
  • Localize malfunctions, auxiliaries and controls and repair as necessary; refer repair problems for other trades to supervisor as necessary, i.e., loss of steam, water, air or electrical power
  • Maintain proper cooling temperatures and pressures in systems such as refrigerated spaces, air handling units, refrigerated laboratory equipment, ice making equipment, vending machines, water coolers, refrigidryers, dehumidifiers and other equipment associated with refrigeration and air conditioning
  • Perform summer/winter changeover to include maintenance and repair of changeover valves, controls, and devices as required
  • Use associated tools and equipment required to install, service, maintain and repair and test refrigeration, cooling and related equipment
  • Work with lead technician on complicated repairs or on construction of new or special units
  • Direct the work of lower grade employees and apprentices as required
  • Operate motor vehicle as required

Job Requirements: Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft. Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education. Must have the Universal Refrigerant Certification. 2 to 3 years of effective experience.

Work Schedule:3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Days Off:Saturday, Sunday

NOTE: EMPLOYEE MUST BE ABLE TO WEAR A RESPIRATOR AND WILL BE SUBJECT TO MEDICAL CLEARANCE.
