Objective

The CCO is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the bank's creditfunction. This includes assessing, monitoring, and mitigating credit risk across various lending activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and developing and implementing credit policies and procedures. While the focus is on credit risk, additional focus will occur through participation in market meetings and ALCO. This position will operate as a strategic business partner to the CEO and Board of Directors to help direct and guide the organization on its overall credit culture.

Responsibilities/Duties

    As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, participates in the Senior Leadership Committee Meetings and strategic planning process. Provides input into the direction and management of the organization.
  • Develops and oversees the administration of credit policy. Chairs Credit Policy Committee.
  • Develops risk mitigation strategies to optimize the composition and performance of the loan portfolio.
  • Monitors credit exposure and implements measures to minimize potential losses.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership of the organization's credit process. Ensures asset mix is in accordance with plan levels and risk profile is maintained at a satisfactory level.
  • Advises credit and loan personnel on the company's overall lending policy.
  • Reviews and approves credit requests beyond delegated lending authority of other credit officers.
  • Actively leads efforts on problem loan assets while closely monitoring loan portfolio performance. Focus is on delinquency and non-performing assets. Analyzes developing trends and acts quickly and decisively as situations develop to minimize loss and mitigate adverse exposure.
  • Ensures appropriate reporting is provided to the Board of Directors at least quarterly so that important risk information is reviewed.
  • Recommends and jointly approves lending and related approval authorities.
  • Establishes and refines the bank's credit policy, interprets credit policy, and exercises a high degree of judgment and decision making on matters that could affect profitability and financial stability of the Bank.
  • Initiates non-performing status and charge-offs.
  • Responsible for managing the ALLL and provides suitable support for CECL calculations.
  • Studies long-range economic trends and evaluates potential impacts on the loan portfolio.
  • Maintains a view of the regulatory landscape to provide forward thinking direction on potential impacts.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and banking standards and regulations.
  • Motivates and develops team members to build a bench of talent for future succession.
  • Collaborates with internal and external auditors and federal/state examiners as needed.
  • Maintains a view on technology systems in order to recommend changes to improve processes or create efficiencies, as needed.
  • Demonstrates community involvement by participating in community activities, groups, and boards for networking and business development opportunities to align professional and Firstrust Branding.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Essential Functions

Knowledge - Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree Required in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Master's degree / Wharton School of Banking a plus
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in progressive leadership roles in the credit/lending function.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience setting strategy and partnering with senior leadership teams.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a bank.
  • Experience with C&I lending and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) lending; consumer lending knowledge a plus.
  • Exceptional understanding of credit analysis, underwriting principles, lending, and bank regulatory requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to make sound decisions in complex situations.
  • Demonstrates courage to maintain healthy tension and stand strong in a position when needed.
  • Experience navigating difficulty and finding compromise while keeping the bank's risk appetite top of mind.
  • Demonstrates proactiveness, flexibility, tech-savviness, and calculated risk taking.
  • Strong delegation and team building skills with the ability to support a team and the team's work embracing ownership, accountability, and responsibility.
