The Position

This role is a vital component of our Pharma Technical Cell Therapies (PTCC) - Analytical Development Team, which is dedicated to advancing the field of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs). As a member of this collaborative and dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in Process Development, Formulation, Quality, and Regulatory groups to drive the development and validation of cutting-edge analytical methods and control strategies. Your contributions will play a crucial part in ensuring the characterization, optimization, and clinical readiness of innovative cell and gene therapies.

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will lead the development and optimization of analytical methods for materials used in advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), providing critical support to cross-functional teams in a highly collaborative environment. Additionally, you will:

  • Develop and optimize chromatography, capillary, spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry-based analytical methods for material attribute characterization, process development, and material-level comparability assessment

  • Perform physicochemical characterization of various material subcategories to identify critical material attributes (CMAs)

  • Provide technical support for analytical method qualification and transfer activities

  • Author and review technical development documents and relevant sections of health authority filings

  • Assist in defining and executing phase-appropriate analytical control strategy to enable CMC development timelines

  • Perform hands-on, technical execution in the laboratory while providing mentorship to junior colleagues.

  • Ensure timely analytical support for process/formulation development and process validation activities

Who You Are:

  • You possess a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field AND a minimum of 2+ years of analytical development experience in the biotech/biopharma industry; or BS/MS with a minimum of 8+ years of experience

  • You have a demonstrated track record of successful analytical method development

  • You possess in-depth and hands-on experience in developing a wide array of analytical protein/nucleic acid characterization methods (e.g. HPLC-based methods, capillary electrophoresis, LC/MS peptide mapping, etc.)

  • You have a proven track record of working effectively and collaboratively with other scientists on cross-functional project teams

  • You are a scientifically driven individual with excellent critical thinking, scientific problem-solving, organizational skills, and exceptional oral and written communication abilities, offering a creative approach to tackling complex problems

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $104,700 - $194,400. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
