Who we are and what we do: The attorneys for the Office of General Counsel (OGC) handle administrative contested case hearings for department program areas and before boards regulating health care providers, administrative rulemaking, providing legislative bill analyses, writing formal and informal legal opinions, providing timely and accurate legal advice to all department programs, and advising on ethics issues. How you make a difference in this role: The attorneys working at OGC for the Department of Health represent the State of Tennessee. The OGC performs a variety of legal functions in support of the department's mission to protect, promote, and improve the health and well-being of all people in Tennessee. Job Overview: The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking a litigation attorney with at least 3 years of relevant experience in the practice of law to serve as an Associate Counsel in its Office of General Counsel. The duties for this position involve extensive litigation. Key Responsibilities: The attorney will represent the Department in administrative law cases before various health licensure boards, prepare cases for litigation including medical record review, depositions, discovery, and trial, and analyze proposed legislation affecting public health. Intellectual curiosity, a litigation background, strong writing skills, and an interest in the healthcare industry are necessary. We are seeking applicants who will be adept at working in a dynamic, team-focused environment and handling a large case load at different phases of litigation. Minimum Qualifications: Valid Tennessee Law License Graduated from an accredited law school with a J.D.
