About the Job

The Department of Pediatrics seeks a Certified Medical Assistant responsible for obtaining human subject data for research projects related to pediatric obesity.

Job duties:

60% Clinical Laboratory Data Collection

  • Perform lab procedures in the areas of: venipunctures, hematology, urinalysis, microbiology (fecal samples), pregnancy testing, electrocardiography (ECG)
  • Schedule and prepare documentation/supplies for research study clinic visits
  • Process biological specimens (Blood, Urine, Fecal, Saliva) using standardized techniques (e.g. centrifuge and aliquot plasma, serum, etc.)
  • Collect and record vital signs in a standardized manner
  • Conduct data collection maintaining GCP and HIPAA compliance
  • Maintain documentation according to local and federal guidelines
  • Verify patient identification to ensure proper specimen labeling

40% Clinical Laboratory Support

  • Perform quality control checks on lab equipment
  • Maintain certifications to conduct assessments with human research subjects on study-related equipment
  • Track and maintain accurate long-term sample storage organization
  • Assist in medical imaging

    Work Hours: 7:30am-3:30pm, may vary slightly depending on clinic needs

    Work Days: Monday-Friday, occasional evenings and weekends
Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program and certified or registered as a Medical Assistant by a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited organization.
  • Proficient in Phlebotomy/IV placement
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs

Preferred:

  • Adept computer skills and willingness to learn new systems
  • Demonstrated detail-orientation with exceptional organizational, planning and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as a part of a team and with changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and process multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated excellence in patient care and customer service
  • Experience working with children in the context of health-related initiatives/projects
  • Experience with clinical trials
  • Experience working in an academic medicine setting
  • Experience with Epic Healthcare systems
  • MN Dept. of Health Limited Scope X-Ray Equipment Operator certification (Densitometry)
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $30.00 per hour depending on education/qualifications/experience.
