***This cohort will include Orthopedics, Family Medicine, and Neurosciences*** The Medical Assistant - Applicant (MA-A) will be actively engaged in the Carilion Medical Assistant training program offered by Carilion Clinic, in collaboration with an educational institution. While working under the direct supervision of a leader, educator, preceptor, and assigned staff, the MA-A will participate in a combination of classroom education and hands on learning. Active participation in this training program, will provide the preparation necessary to successfully complete a medical assistant certification exam. Compliance with all federal, state, and local agency requirements and standards and Carilion policies, procedures, and standards is expected. Performs significant job responsibilities:
- Actively participates in educational content and on-the-job training sessions at assigned locations, tailored to develop essential skills and knowledge required for certification.
- Study for mastery, all educational content assigned.
- Demonstrates a commitment to learning and professional development, actively seeking feedback and opportunities for growth.
- Performs clerical and office functions as directed and trained:
- Greets patients and assists with check-in/check-out procedures.
- Updates patient demographic information.
- Answers phones, schedules appointments, and receives/relays messages.
- Learns to properly utilize various computer systems and applications, including electronic medical records.
- Performs other clerical duties relating to the operation of the practice as assigned and trained.
- Under direct supervision provides basic clinical services reflecting high quality patient care. Direction may be provided by a variety of leaders, preceptors, certified or licensed staff, and clinicians.
- Under direct supervision provides basic clinical care of all ages according to established standards and learns to appropriately document and report patient observations to certified/licensed staff.
What We Require:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Prior healthcare experience preferred.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration:
Life Support: AHA BLS - HCP required within 30 days of hire date.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Must successfully complete orientation and orientation requirements. Must attend the all learning and on-the job training sessions. Effective communication skills in order to work with the public. Computer skills to utilize database systems to perform job duties required. Must be able to problem-solve. Keyboarding required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
