Job Summary:

The Media Technology Consulting team is a fast-growing practice that helps companies in the technology, media and advertising industries strengthen internal processes, roles and responsibilities, and practices related to media measurement. The MTC team advises companies on areas for improvement, as measured against industry standards for media measurement, by performing pre-audit and attestation services to evaluate companies' progress and status in adhering to these standards. BDO's work is relied upon and highly valued by industry standard setters and large media companies and brands.

A senior consultant is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day in-charge duties of planning, fieldwork and wrap-up for media technology engagements, including preparation of final report deliverables.

Members of the MTC team have the opportunity to work with many cutting-edge companies working with advanced technology such as smartphones, virtual reality, extended reality, gaming, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. BDO's attestation services may include hands-on live testing to determine whether user activity is properly flowing through these technologies and will involve working with product managers, engineers, programmers, and other specialists within the companies to understand and evaluate their processes and controls. This role also works closely with BDO subject matter experts in areas like information technology, media measurement, and data analytics.

This position may also periodically be involved in other business process services; for example, Service Organization Control (SOC) 1, SOC 2, WebTrust engagements, and other assurance or advisory engagements.

Job Duties:

Control Environment



  • Applies knowledge and understanding of the collective effect of various factors on establishing or enhancing effectiveness, or mitigating the risks, of specific policies and procedures by:

    • Identifying and considering all applicable laws, rules, and regulations of the firm, or MRC guidelines and standards as part of engagement team
    • Making constructive suggestions to improve client internal controls and compliance procedures
    • Documenting and validating the operating effectiveness of the clients' internal control system and compliance
    • Supervising and reviewing the work of staff
    • Documenting business and IT processes and controls and tests key controls for measurement services
    • Identifying and prioritizing key risks and assesses their impact and likeliness of occurrence
    • Communicating to the client areas to improve processes, strengthen controls, mitigate risks, and/or increase compliance
    • Developing and maintaining relationships with client personnel and management
    • Ensuring technology is appropriately integrated into the examination process



MRC Standards



  • Applies knowledge and understanding of MRC guidelines and standards; application of the principles contained in the MRC guidelines and standards; and the ability to document and communicate an understanding and application of the MRC guidelines and standards on an engagement by:

    • Developing and applying an intermediate knowledge of auditing theory, a sense of audit skepticism, and the use of BDO audit methodology
    • Applying auditing theory to various client situations and environments
    • Documenting working papers and attestation reports in line with BDO policy, identifying deviations and notifying more senior team members of deviations
    • Applying knowledge to identify instances where testing may be reduced or expanded and notifying more senior team members of the occurrence
    • Contributing ideas and opinions to the engagement team

  • Applies knowledge and understanding of MRC guidelines and standards; applying these MRC guidelines and standards to client environment; and documenting and communicating an understanding and application of these principles by:

    • Planning and executing attestation examinations including obtaining an understanding of the control environment, designing test plans, evaluating deficiencies, and assessing the overall compliance with MRC guidelines and standards
    • Reading and reviewing clients' reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and also ensuring that all supporting information is documented in the workpapers and through appropriate testing
    • Preparing required communications to the MRC and related committees
    • Coaching less experienced team members in new areas



Methodology



  • Applies knowledge and application of BDO standards to guide effective and efficient delivery of quality services and products by:

    • Completing all appropriate documentation of BDO work papers
    • Ensuring assigned work is performed in accordance with BDO methodology and requirements



Other



  • Other duties as required


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • Provides verbal and written performance feedback to Associates on assigned engagement teams
  • Supervises the work assignments of Associates on assigned engagement teams


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Computer Science or Management Information Systems, required
  • Master's degree in Accounting and minor or dual major in Information Systems, preferred
  • Coursework in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing, preferred


Experience:



  • Two (2) or more years of experience in internal or external audit, required
  • Two (2) or more years of experience performing internal control reviews, required
  • Two (2) or more Experience performing SOC, SOX or ISO 27001 engagements, required
  • Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience, preferred


License/Certifications:



  • Completion or actively pursuing completion of CPA, CIA, CISA, CISSP or other relevant certifications, preferred


Software:



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, preferred
  • Prior experience with various cloud services (Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure), preferred


Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



  • Basic understanding and experience planning and coordinating the stages of performing consulting, attestation or audit services
  • Knowledge of media measurement standards
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt style and messaging to effectively communicate with professionals at all levels both within the client organization and the firm
  • Solid analytical and critical thinking skills and ability to break down complex issues and implementing appropriate resolutions
  • Solid project management skills
  • Ability to successfully interact with professionals at all levels

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $84,000 - $115,000
Maryland Range: $84,000 - $115,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $84,000 - $115,000
