THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of two sewage treatment plants, the wastewater system at the Park's Visitor Center, and the water treatment facility at the campground, along with all associated equipment such as pump stations, sewage and water lines, and manholes. Collaborating with a seasonal operator, you will ensure the efficient functioning of the park's sewage treatment facilities. Your duties will include operating, maintaining, assessing, and repairing various equipment, including electric motors, pumps, compressors, valves, sand filters, chlorinators, aerators, water softeners, flow meters, and liquid level mercury switches. Additionally, you will be tasked with the upkeep and custodial cleaning of the buildings and grounds within the facility. You will also collect water samples and conduct chemical tests to assess pH levels, dissolved oxygen, chlorine residual, settleable solids in both influent and effluent, and the biochemical oxygen demand of the sewage effluent. Furthermore, you will prepare comprehensive reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis for the sewer and water systems, while monitoring sewage flows and precipitation at the treatment plant.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hour work week
  • Work schedule will vary to cover a 7 day a week operation.
  • Will work 5 days a week which may include weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed for park operations to meet seasonal needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) program and certification as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant; or
  • Possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator for any class and type of plant.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires you to have possession of a valid certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater System Operators as a wastewater treatment plant operator that is equal to or greater than the classification and sub classification of the wastewater system to be operated or maintained.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
