What you'll be doing...

Verizon is looking for a talented and motivated Network Security Engineer with a good understanding of routing protocols, switching, firewalls, scripting, automation tools, big data, machine learning, and related technologies. Someone who thrives on new challenges and enjoys solving the problems associated with building a complex system in a network data center. The Network Security Services infrastructure consists of several large scale networking, compute, and storage clusters that are used to analyze petabyte scale network and security event data sets for anomalous and malicious network activity to protect Verizon and its customers.

Primary Responsibilities

Successful candidates will have responsibility for a number of the following areas based on the unique expertise that they bring to the project.

  • Engineer and deploy appropriate network solutions for data center networks

  • Identify technology gaps to lead in the design, architecture, and implementation of appropriate solutions collaboratively

  • Create formal guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure smooth and error-free operations

  • Drive relevant, strategic solutions in a highly scalable environment

  • Maintain high availability and performance of the data center networks, support infrastructure, and environment using various monitoring tools

  • Participate in capacity planning activities and identify areas for improvements in managing network resource and inventory

  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to system outages and incidents

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or ten or more years of work experience.

  • Ten or more years of relevant work experience

  • Expertise in Linux system administration and IP networking

  • Proven experience managing on premise Kubernetes clusters at scale

  • Deep expertise with fundamental Internet services including DNS and SMTP

  • User access management experience with RADIUS, LDAP, and Kerberos

  • Experience building and maintaining Docker container images

  • Database expertise including PostgreSQL

  • Solid understanding of iSCSI and NFS network storage

  • Proficiency in automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible and Git

  • Strong scripting skills (Bash, Python)

  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting systems at scale

  • Familiarity with data center operations, racking equipment, cabling, and out-of-band management

  • Ability to troubleshoot IP connectivity

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles including hardening, auditing, and compliance

  • Strong oral and written communication skills required for internal and external communication, at a range of technical and executive levels

Even better if you have:

  • Experience provisioning and running the following operating systems: Ubuntu Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, OpenBSD

  • Experience provisioning iSCSI storage volumes and NFS shares

  • Experience managing the following applications:

    • GitLab

    • M/Monit

    • FreeIPA Server

    • FreeRADIUS

    • Nginx

    • Zabbix

    • Bind

    • OpenSMTPD

    • PostgreSQL

Where you'll be working
