Position summary:

The Physical Security Analyst is a key member of the Physical Security team, focusing on the technologies, processes, and procedures that help the Company meet regulatory obligations and general business security needs. This person will have assigned responsibilities for physical security projects starting with initial assessment to final installation at company locations. This person will identify physical security needs and vulnerabilities, work with appropriate Black Hills Corporate groups and contractors to implement measures to fulfill those needs and mitigate vulnerabilities. This individual will utilize Windows Server experience to manage Physical Security Systems and the requirements in support of NERC and TSA Regulations.

Pay Range: This posting includes the full pay range for this position. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.

Level II: $71,100 - $106,600

Senior Level: $84,00 - $126,900

Reporting Relationship: Physical Security Manager

Location: This position may be located in Fayetteville, Arkansas; Denver, Colorado; Council Bluffs, Iowa; or our corporate headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Essential Functions:

  • Steer projects for Gas, Electric and business operations initiatives in support of security requirements.
  • Schedule, implement and test physical security controls including access card readers, video cameras and DVRs to provide risk assessments to site and state leadership to support the overall culture of Security for Black Hills Energy.
  • Working knowledge of all security management software products, from access control, incident, video management, incident response and event response, to drive efficiencies in support of business essential and critical assets.
  • Manage applicable assigned cyber security controls such as firewalls, intrusion detection software, vulnerability management and various endpoint protection products, etc across windows server platforms.
  • Guide physical security projects keeping project implementation and management of security systems and platforms on track.
  • Develop communications, brief leadership and actively promote related campaigns for information security awareness.
  • Troubleshoot systems hardware issues, manage repair efforts, and track mitigations until systems are restored
  • Support after hours issues in support of the SOC and business by participating in rotating on-call with the Security Team.
  • Support physical security system audits, user audits, exercises and network audits tied to NERC-CIP, TSA, SOC, Internal Audit, etc.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Travel to BHE areas as needed to provide experienced project oversight and complete risk-based compliance taskings in support of BHE processes for assessing overall company risk tied to specific geographic and systems criticality.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to Level I Security Analysts by working with security integrators, vendors, software manufacturers and application users to program, maintain and improve support for all security systems.
  • Assist in providing recommendations for Physical Security Cyber Systems to ensure systems supporting businesses are cost effective, supportable, standardized and in keeping with industry best practices for Security controls.

What Is Required:

Level II:

  • Associate's Degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Security or job related field or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct Physical Security installation and configuration experience or equivalent

Senior level:

  • Associate's Degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Security or job related field or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct Physical Security installation and configuration experience or equivalent.
  • Seasoned understanding of network architecture, firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems, web filtering, audit and log management, physical security control systems, real-time systems, Video Management Systems and components, and common operating systems.
  • Strong understanding of physical security architecture and protection strategies. Be able to drive engineering and design best practices as a part of Tier II support for systems design and implementation projects.
  • Strong individual organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical people.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, handle multiple projects simultaneously, assist with coordinating a variety of work functions and adapt to critical timelines.

What Is Desired:

  • Strong understanding of current regulatory environment, including NERC-CIP, TSA and SOX desired
  • Knowledge of network systems, vulnerability assessment and management products, Windows operating systems, basic UNIX/Linux operating systems, networks (routing, switching, etc.), scripting/programming (shell, Perl, C, etc.) helpful. Experienced integrator skills demonstrated for low voltage electronics to include troubleshooting, repair and configuration of access control and video systems preferred.
  • Ability to handle and report confidential and proprietary information with discretion.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve system and maintenance problems.
  • Knowledge of key physical security program elements, including site security risk assessments.
