Overview:

FPM Group, a well-established multi-discipline engineering, architecture, and environmental services firm, has been a trusted provider of innovative solutions since the 1960s. Our diverse project portfolio includes building renovations, MEPF systems, public works, infrastructure development, and environmental compliance. We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our team at our Bohemia and Oneida locations.

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will serve as lead designer and project manager, overseeing the design, implementation, and administration of complex mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for major new construction, renovations, and system upgrades. You will provide strategic guidance, mentor junior staff, and ensure project success for clients across government, industrial, and commercial sectors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of high-performance HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, including sustainable and renewable energy solutions, across all project phases.
  • Conduct field inspections and system assessments.
  • Develop and approve detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and other team members to define and refine project scope, objectives, budgets, and schedules.
  • Oversee the resolution of complex technical challenges during project execution, offering innovative and timely solutions.
  • Provide construction administration services, including reviewing submittals, shop drawings, RFI responses, and contractor coordination.
  • Serve as a primary client contact, maintaining strong relationships through regular project updates, addressing concerns, and ensuring satisfaction.
  • Lead project risk assessments, resource allocation, and quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to business development by supporting proposal preparation, project scoping, and strategic planning.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior engineers and design staff.
  • Participate in performance reviews, project staffing, and training initiatives to build team capabilities.
    Education and Experience Requirements:
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with extensive experience in building systems design for government, industrial, and commercial facilities.
  • Proven expertise in MEPF engineering, including conceptual design, HVAC load calculations, air handling units, boiler systems, and digital control systems.
  • Experience managing large, multi-disciplinary projects from conception to completion.
  • Experience with construction administration, including punch lists, contractor coordination, and permitting.
  • Deep knowledge of building codes and standards (e.g., NYS Energy Code, NYS Mechanical Code, NFPA).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong proficiency with AutoCAD and project management software (e.g., BlueBeam, ProCore, Submittal Exchange).
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to lead technical decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy systems and sustainable design.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • NYS Professional Engineer Registration is preferred.
  • EIT/FE exam passage required
  • Professional Engineer Registration in other states is beneficial.

Compensation:

Salary range: $120,000 to $160,000, depending on experience, expertise, and market alignment.
