Overview

The exercise physiologist may provide coverage in a variety of care settings in the cardiovascular department. The exercise physiologist is responsible for coordinating a interdisciplinary treatment plan to meet the clinical and educational needs of patients with cardiovascular disease.



Responsibilities

    Complete needs assessment on referred patients to develop a treatment plan which includes exercise, risk factor intervention and psychosocial needs.
  • Evaluate patients emotional adjustment that may affect full recovery.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of scientific principles and exercise physiology guidelines for cardiovascular patient populations.
  • Provide expertise in medications and exercise to assist with clinical management of cardiac rehabilitation patients.
  • Educate patients and families in principles of exercise therapy, risk factor modification and other behavioral modifications using educational tools based on cognitive and readiness to learn.
  • Provide comprehensive individual treatment plans based on regulatory standards
  • Prescribe clinically appropriate exercise.
  • Facilitate risk factor modification treatment plan for cardiac rehabilitation patient population.
  • Provide clinical supervision of patients in group exercise programs.
  • Assist in maintaining competencies including emergency preparedness.
  • Assists in ongoing development of preventative cardiology programs and educational opportunities.


Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred but will consider experience
  • One of more years of relevant clinical experience preferred
  • ACLS required
  • BLS required
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Experience in arrhythmia interpretation
