Mansfield Service Partners is searching for an Accounting Manager for our Houston, TX location. The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This manager supervises Staff and Sr Staff Accountants and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. The position duties encompass a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.

Responsibilities

Coaching and Mentoring

  • Develop clear goals for staff each year that support company goals and objectives
  • Develop a coaching strategy for staff to achieve or exceed goals and objectives
    • Regularly review performance with staff
    • Help staff focus on what is within their control to achieve success
    • Celebrate success
    • Quickly address performance issues in a constructive manner
    • Create positive accountability and follow-up to achieve goals

Accounting Leadership

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Ensure all account reconciliations are performed timely and accurately
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information for all companies
  • Ensure tight controls over inventory process including physical counts and weighted average cost
  • Ensure the weekly and monthly bank compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Support budget and forecasting activities
  • Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Respond to inquiries from the CFO, Controller, and other finance and firm wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like
  • Lead the company's interim and year-end audit work with external audit firm; work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit
  • Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
  • Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
  • Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting required
  • Active CPA license required

Knowledge & Experience

  • Five or more years of leadership in accounting required
  • Large regional public accounting firm experience or Big 4 experience preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of general ledger, intercompany accounting, consolidations
  • Inventory management preferred
  • Proficient Advanced use of Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Dynamics experience preferred
  • Audit experience preferred
  • Petroleum experience preferred
  • Manufacturing experience preferred

Qualifications & Characteristics

  • Ability to multi-task
  • Accustomed to working periodic under tight deadlines such as at month end close out
  • Detail oriented
  • Time and task management skills essential
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision to meet deadlines

Work Environment

  • Minimum 40-hour on-site work week
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and other computer components
