OVERVIEW: The Senior Director, E-Commerce reports into the General Manager, North America and is a key member of the North America Leadership Team at Beiersdorf. The Senior Director, E-Commerce will define the digital commerce strategy and ensure it is executed across all channels. The successful candidate will be an influencer among their peers to ensure profitability and execute new growth opportunities in the channel. This role leads a team of 12 and will be responsible for developing and retaining E-Commerce talent. This role is based in our Stamford, CT office 3 days per week minimum so candidates must live a commutable distance from Stamford, CT. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create, deliver and execute the US E-Commerce growth strategy as a key member of the North America Leadership team, as well as the Commercial Sales/Strategy Leadership team. Enroll & embed ecommerce strategy into the organization.
- Lead function of 12 employees (5 direct reports) with diverse experiences across Amazon, Omni-Channel, Data/Analytics, Content & CX, and Social Commerce.
- Demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities to elevate the performance and strategic direction of the E-Commerce function, fostering a culture of care, excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
- Cultivate and manage relationships within a matrixed organization, specifically with key stakeholders in the U.S. and Global E-Commerce teams, ensuring alignment of objectives, effective communication, and collaboration to drive organizational success and enhance stakeholder engagement
- Collaborate closely with the VP of Commercial Sales/Strategy (and the Leadership Team of the function) to ensure seamless integration of strategies and initiatives, driving alignment between Commercial Sales & E-Commerce to enhance overall business performance
- Proactively assess organizational structure to ensure resources are allocated properly to execute strategy. Propose & execute changes when gaps are identified.
- Maintain relationship & update regional/global ecommerce leaders on US progress.
- Serve as internal advocate and expert on digital commerce.
- Actively engage within regional eCommerce community and support cross-country ecommerce acceleration via best practice sharing
- Create strategy to increase organizational capability in digital commerce.
- Amplify social commerce and leverage TTS as key element for GTM
- Set & drive the right ecommerce channel goals and KPI's to ensure long term strategy is achieved.
- Lead and oversee channel activities in collaboration with ecommerce team and key business partners.
- Lead and implement ways of working within E-Commerce team and with key cross-functional teams
- Create Amazon retail media strategy, drive decisions with brand and push agencies to maximize impact.
- Understand Brand strategy and oversees/guides its translation into eCom growth plans and eCommerce playbook (MAPPs). Conducts assortment and e-POS gap analyses to drive growth.
- Build & maintain strong relationships with brand leadership to ensures brand teams are aware of .com issues, opportunities, promos, drive planning & prioritization.
- Lead plans to identify whitespace and create strategy to secure whitespace as new business.
- Lead proactive decision making for the ecommerce channel.
- Build and leverage customer intelligence.
- Stay current on ecommerce/digital trends and apply proactive approach to strategy.
- Bring expertise to make recommendations internally on how to WIN in ecommerce.
- Lead top level customer negotiations and manage senior level relationships with ecommerce customers.
- Responsible for ecommerce channel P&L. Build financial rigor on ecommerce team. Partners with finance to execute profitability while growing business and maintain ecommerce customer health.
- Lead S&OP for ecommerce, ensure effective implementation of sales initiatives and programs through fact-based quality input.
- Lead team to effectively manage key growth levers such as trade terms and conditions, promotions and shopper marketing programs.
- Champion cross collaboration with all other departments or key stakeholders such as: brand marketing, integrated media, sales controlling, demand planning, customer service and replenishment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- MBA preferred
- 8-10 years in account management, with minimum 5+ years in leadership positions, and minimum 5+ years of ecommerce experience.
- Experience successfully leading high performing teams, developing & retaining strong E-Commerce talent, and fostering strong cross-functional collaboration
- Experience in ecommerce sales strategy.
- Expert level ecommerce understanding of how levers work.
- Understanding of performance marketing and proven track record of maximizing investments.
- Experience with change management and increasing organizational digital/ecomm capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, persuading and interpersonal skills at all levels.
- Experience in a fast-moving consumer packaged goods environment.
- Extensive knowledge in ecommerce best practices.
- Proven track record of producing sustainable growth within the channel.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and be proactive in identifying issues and recommending solutions.
- Experience with working in a mature S&OP environment
- Strong strategic and analytical/critical thinking skills.
- Working knowledge of merchandising, pricing and promotions principles and strategies.
- Ability & willingness to be strategic and "hands on."
- Must be results-oriented, organized, demonstrating the ability to lead and motivate others.
- Nielsen and/or IRI, SAP experience extremely helpful.
- Core values understanding and experienced.
- Strong excel, PowerPoint and word skills.
- Travel required (approximately 30-50%) to customers, customer events, store visits, industry events, etc.
