Midwest Veterinary Supply is seeking an Outside Sales Director for our Corporate Lakeville, Minnesota Branch.

Job Summary:

The Outside Sales Director will be responsible for the development and management of the strategic plan to increase revenue and growth in the Outside Sales Team at Midwest based on Midwest's overall strategic plan. The role will cultivate networks and relationships within Midwest and partner vendors' management to drive sales growth. This position directly supervises the Regional Outside Sales Manager Team and works closely with the Inside Sales Director and Sales Trainer.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement sales strategies to meet revenue goals and market expansion goals. Analyze market trends and competitor activities to identify new opportunities and adapt sales strategies. Work closely with Inside Sales Director, marketing, purchasing & vendor management to align activities. Provide communication, focus & incentives to outside sales team to ensure goal attainment.
  • Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage the Regional Outside Sales Manager team, providing coaching, training, and support to enhance their skills and performance. Deal with escalation of issues as needed for further sales. Work with the Inside Sales Director to ensure alignment of sales activities and relationships between the Regional Manager and Call Center Manager teams.
  • Training and Development: Collaborate with Inside Sales Director, Sales Trainer & other internal Midwest departments to constantly develop the Outside Sales team. Develop and implement strategies to ensure rapid upstart of new sales team members and continuous improvement of existing members. Ensure accountability of sales team members. Develop objectives for new hire training, the National Outside Sales Meeting, regional meetings and other sales training to be performed by the Sales Trainer.
  • Sales Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve the sales process and territories to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Work with the Inside Sales Director to identify and implement new technology and tactics to improve profitability and client acquisition. Look 3-5 years ahead to determine the strategic direction the Midwest Outside Sales Team should take to get a preferred market position.
  • Budget: Formulate an annual outside sales budget that maximizes revenue and growth in sales, constantly re-evaluate and adjust as needed based on industry/market changes throughout the year. Communicate annual budget to sales management and provide progress updates to goals annually, quarterly and monthly.
  • Sales Forecasting and Reporting: Work with the Business Intelligence team to develop and track the outside sales goals, forecasts, reporting performance to goals and identifying areas for improvement. Provide direction to Regional Outside Sales Managers to ensure goal attainment.
  • Internal Alignment: Work with other internal Midwest departments to align sales team activities and ensure a superior customer experience. This includes the Midwest purchasing team, warehouse teams, accounts receivable, compliance team and other Midwest departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Provide direct supervision and guidance to Regional Outside Sales Managers and the Sales Administration department. Regularly meet with Regional Outsides Sales Managers, individually and as a group, to discuss goal attainment, market share growth, increasing sales and revenue and other important topics as needed. Ensure that all Midwest initiatives, including compliance and licensing policies, procedures and updates are effectively communicated to and implemented by the Regional Outside Sales Management Team and Outside Sales Team.

Job Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree preferred, but bachelor's degree with relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years' experience in B2B sales management.
  • Experience in veterinary distribution sales preferred.
  • Experience in building, managing, and developing high-performing sales teams is crucial.
  • Experience with CRM software and building strong relationships with clients is expected.
  • Experience in evaluating market share, analyzing data, and communicating findings to stakeholders is required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and a basic understanding of digital marketing and social media platforms.
  • Problem-solving skills to propose mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Strong project management and customer service skills.
  • A deep understanding of various sales techniques, methodologies, and the sales process.

Equipment Used:

Regularly uses typical office equipment including computer keyboard and terminal, printer, iPad and iPhone.

Work Environment:

Work will typically be performed Monday through Friday. Working more than 40 hours per workweek may be required. Travel to attend meetings, conferences and industry events will be required.
