This role entails standard office style hours with variations to accommodate operational needs including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Our operations primarily occur during the fall and winter seasons with reduced activity during spring and summer.

Position Overview:

The General Manager is responsible and accountable for the overall performance of the station including the cost-effective use of facilities, equipment, labor and assets assigned to the station. The General Manager is further responsible for supporting the company goals and objectives and promoting the business interests of the company by conducting him or herself in a professional manner while maintaining excellent customer service and good public relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  • Managing all aspects of the facility and daily operations as well as provide leadership and coaching to increase overall safety, performance, maintenance, deicing operations, facility requirements and customer service.
  • Verify certifications of all new and returning staff and ensure they receive all operational training, recurrent training, and Health and Safety training.
  • Enforce IDS, airport authority, airline, and other regulatory offices policies and/or procedures.
  • Develop, implement and update a site manpower plan that maintains adequate operations staffing levels for safe and effective operation and meets all requirements of the contract.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Business Management or related field preferred although relevant post-secondary education and combination of continuing education and experience may be acceptable.
  • 5 or more years of airline operational experience including but not limited to customer service, operations, maintenance, deicing, flight operations, facility requirements, airport management and safety/regulatory requirements.
  • Must have the ability to mentor and train personnel and management to accommodate future growth and expansion.
  • Successful completion of all IDS Classroom and OJT deicing and anti-icing training.
  • Ability to quickly learn, interpret information and transfer knowledge to others.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and airline policies, warehouse procedures, operating station equipment, and aircraft handling procedures.
  • Staff management skills, including mentorship, performance management and conflict resolution.
  • Able to lead team in meeting goals, identifying areas of strength and follow through to be sure that deadlines are met and success/failures are identified following each project.
  • Possess solid project management skills to include coordination of team, identifying and assessing project criteria, implementation of key tasks, communication and monitoring of progress and results, and managing to project completion with final results and outcomes being reported.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to listen to others and value opinions, interpret information, promote and execute ideas, prepare reports and presentations, lead groups and provide foundation of open communication.
  • Intermediate computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Office 365.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining professionalism in all interactions.
  • A valid driver's license is required for this position.

Work Environment:

  • The General Manager will have a mixture of operational and office duties. While much of the job will require office skills, time will still be spent on the ramp ensuring that operational goals are being achieved.
  • There may be exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions (wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles and vibration).
  • The noise level in the work environment can be excessive at times.

Physical Demands:

  • It is expected that the candidate be physically fit and able to perform all operational requirements.
  • Position involves standing or sitting for extended periods of time as well as bending, kneeling, lifting, climbing, using hands to control tools and feel objects, reaching with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Wearing of personal protective equipment when required and full mobility allowing for freedom of movement in high-risk environment.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and hear efficiently.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
