The Department of Surgery is the largest surgical department in the School of Medicine with revenue generation of over $70 million annually. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of University, campus, and UCDHS fiscal and accounting policies, procedures, practices, and organization. This position collaborates with the Finance Manager and CAO on all activities related to the fiscal management of the Department of Surgery. Additionally, this position manages the processing of financial reporting, accounts receivable, processing of academic payroll, and payroll reconciliation for staff and faculty and serves as the back up to accounts payable. This position also provides work direction and training to other Analysts working in the Finance Unit. This position must maintain a work schedule during core business hours and provide additional time as needed to meet project deadlines and operational needs. This position provides analytical support in all areas of fiscal management, as assigned, for the Department of Surgery. Financial responsibilities include; financial administration, billing and collections, accounts payable/receivable, department contracts, cash collection, gift management/processing, account set-up, payroll, and ledger reconciliation. This position is required to interpret policy and procedure guidelines to ensure compliance. Independently organizes and determines work priorities to accommodate all deadlines. Responsible for accurately maintaining extensive files, including back-up documentation for all transactions by account.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training
- Demonstrated advanced Microsoft Office experience, specializing in MS Excel to process spreadsheets, graphing, tables, calculations, pivot tables and automation to efficiently process large quantities of data.
- Experience and ability to interpret Policy & Procedures and PPS Manuals and to understand and apply specific policies and procedures. Ability to interpret and implement verbal or written instructions. Ability to follow established administrative unit policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated advanced Microsoft Office experience, specializing in MS Excel to process spreadsheets, graphing, tables, calculations, pivot tables and automation to efficiently process large quantities of data.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and techniques sufficient for accurate analysis and preparation of all payroll and financial activities.
- Demonstrated experience using financial information systems such as Cognos, UCPath, AggieEnterprise and AggieExpense or similar systems.
- Advanced skills using spreadsheet and word processing and other financial software applications. Skills and ability to design user friendly accounting reports. Ability to quickly, accurately produce a wide variety of material.
- Ability to analyze financial data and computer reports in order to draw meaningful conclusions. Ability to solve problems quickly.
- Ability to work with changing priorities and demanding workload and to use independent judgment to make logical decisions.
- Ability to use good judgment in notifying supervisor of potential problems and in providing work updates.
- Skills to organize projects simultaneously and to set priorities to effect project completion within stated deadlines; ability to complete tasks accurately, neatly and quickly under pressure of deadline and other duties.
- Ability to work effectively and independently with minimal supervision.
- Proofreading skills to identify errors and ability to correct errors and produce error-free work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion to make logical, appropriate and independent judgment.

Department Overview
The Department of Surgery encompasses a wide variety of surgical specialties. These include bariatric surgery, burn surgery, colorectal surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery, endocrine surgery, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, transplant surgery, trauma, acute care and surgical critical care surgery, vascular surgery, and oncologic surgery. The Department's extensive surgical expertise, in combination with ongoing teaching and research activities, provide ample resources and advanced surgical techniques for patient care.
