Outdoor Ed Labor - Animal Care

We are seeking a responsible individual to perform the daily operations of Hawthorn Glen facility and the Little Nature Museum.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time seasonal

HOURLY RATE: $16.00

HOURS PER WEEK: 5-18

Responsible for daily tasks of the Little Nature Museum, especially the care of resident animals.
Perform as a liaison for permit groups.
Maintain general property safety and security for buildings, grounds and trails.
Ensure proper forms for the Nature Museum are completed and submitted to Head Naturalist/Resource Staff.
Inventory food, medication and necessary equipment for animals in the Little Nature Museum and report to Head Naturalist/Resource staff.
Record daily attendance of Play Field and submit to Head Naturalist/Resource staff.
Maintain equipment and supplies in good order.
Provide general cleaning and up-keep of the building before, during and after your shift. This also includes garbage removal and stocking of bathroom paper products.
Demonstrate knowledge of MPS Recreation and Hawthorn Glen rules, policies and procedures.
Perform appropriate opening and closing procedures for the facility.

Reports to the Hawthorn Glen Resource staff and Recreation Supervisor of Outdoor Education

Be at least 16 years of age.
Able to meet the scheduling needs for this position

Previous work with children and adults.
College coursework and practical experience in natural sciences/outdoor education/animal care.

Knowledge of animal care.
Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.
Ability to hike on trails and uneven terrain.
Ability to work well with limited supervision and demonstrate flexibility.
Ability to make independent decisions and respond to immediate needs of participants and emergency situations.
Ability to complete necessary paperwork.
Leadership and communication skills.
Display a positive attitude and effectively communicate with participants and staff.
Willingness to work varied hours and days.

This work environment includes physical activity such as hiking, lifting at least 40 lbs., working in all weather conditions and cleaning, feeding and caring for animals.
