Role Summary

The Manager, Commercial Accounting - Warranty will oversee warranty accounting operations across all Rivian products. This includes ensuring accurate accruals, driving process automation, maintaining SOX compliance, and leading cross-functional collaborations for forecast and reporting alignment. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in accrual accounting, US GAAP, and big data tools-and thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments.

  • Ensure Accurate Warranty Accounting: Lead global warranty accounting operations for vehicles, service parts, accessories, and charging infrastructure.
  • Own the Close: Drive timely and accurate monthly closes, in compliance with US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Strengthen Controls: Maintain and enhance SOX controls over warranty processes.
  • Forecasting & Strategic Insight: Lead development of warranty forecasts and partner with Finance to align with company-wide projections.
  • Enable Scale Through Automation: Leverage tools like Databricks to streamline manual journal entries and reporting processes.
  • Act as a Business Partner: Collaborate across teams on warranty cost-reduction strategies and executive-level financial presentations.
Team Summary:

Rivian's Commercial Finance Team brings together both Finance and Accounting functions to support the Commercial Business across Vehicles, Accessories, Retail, Charging, and Vehicle Services. The team is responsible for business development, strategic planning, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting. This role, Manager, Commercial Accounting, sits within the Accounting function on the Vehicle Service Team.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee global warranty accounting operations across all product lines.
  • Execute and manage monthly close processes for warranty accounting in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Maintain and improve SOX controls related to warranty processes.
  • Prepare and monitor warranty-related accruals in alignment with ASC 460 and ASC 450.
  • Partner with actuarial and finance teams on warranty model refreshes and periodic updates.
  • Develop and present quarterly warranty forecasts aligned with broader financial planning.
  • Automate journal entries and reporting processes using Databricks.
  • Support external audits through timely documentation and collaboration.
  • Lead meetings with executive stakeholders to communicate warranty-related insights.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • CPA certification is required.
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in accrual accounting; direct experience in warranty accounting highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, including ASC 460 and ASC 450.
  • Familiarity with actuarial modeling and big data concepts.
  • Minimum of 2 years using data analysis tools (e.g., Databricks) and data visualization tools (e.g., Hex).
  • Proficiency in or ability to quickly learn SQL or similar programming languages.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial topics for cross-functional teams.
