ABOUT THE JOB

JPI has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Specialist to join our Design for Execution team located in Dallas, TX.

The Technical Specialist supports project teams during the design phase by ensuring constructability, translating operational needs into actionable design, and proactively addressing potential construction challenges. The position will report to the Technical Lead.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Project Risk Mitigation

  • Support implementation of de-risking checklists for each design milestone.

  • Track constructability reviews and record follow-up actions in coordination with construction teams.

  • Assist in documenting decisions and risk mitigation actions throughout the design process.

  • Provide input during design meetings to flag constructability concerns based on trade partner feedback or historical issues.

  • Maintain a design issue log to track and escalate unresolved risks to the Lead or Manager.

Technical Documentation

  • Convert operational and construction input into clear, buildable design criteria and redlines.

  • Research product data, manufacturer recommendations, and installation details to inform design decisions.

  • Stay updated with evolving codes, materials, and modular solutions and compile brief summaries for the team.

Design Coordination Support and Value Analysis

  • Assist with VDC model reviews by tagging coordination conflicts and updating documentation per DFX feedback.

  • Participate in design reviews to ensure alignment with JPI design standards and operational criteria.

  • Document recurring design issues and propose simple revisions to standard detail libraries.

  • Assist in reviewing design documents for consistency with established standards and operational performance metrics.

  • Support Best Value exercises by gathering options for materials, finishes, or assemblies that meet budget constraints.

  • Ensure Best Value substitutions meet intent and don't introduce long-term quality or constructability issues.

Logistics Support

  • Assist with preliminary site logistics plans to ensure, laydown zones, and delivery routes are viable.

  • Coordinate utility as-built drawings and assist in easement verification.

  • Prepare visual overlays and phasing diagrams under guidance from Leads or Managers.

Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements

  • Bachelors' Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or related field.

  • 2-5 years of experience in design management and construction, preferably in the multifamily industry.

  • Technical Skills: Understanding of construction sequencing, drawing details, logistics planning, site phasing, and utility coordination. Procore, Bluebeam, Oracle Primavera Cloud, AutoCAD, Revit.

  • Familiarity with VDC tools and basic design-to-construction translation.

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving mindset.

  • Act as a representative and advocate of JPI's culture and guiding principles

  • 5-day work week (Monday-Friday) Physical Co-location
