Job Description

The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) is seeking a Health Physics and Safety Manager with experience ensuring safe and compliant work activities in a nuclear environment. This individual will direct all aspects of MURR Health Physics and Safety, establish and execute a vision of Health Physics and Safety excellence, and maintain a strong operational focus. This is a position that prioritizes nuclear and environmental health and safety, engages and develops the workforce, creates an environment of teamwork, trust and cooperation, drives for sustainable results and builds technical and leadership capability throughout the Health Physics and Safety function. This position also ensures operational alignment with peer functions across the organization in support of research and product/services goals.

The Health Physics and Safety Manager will report to the Executive Director of MURR and work closely with MU campus administration. The incumbent is a direct leader of other people leaders and has a scope of responsibility that includes the Health Physics, Environment Health and Safety, Shipping, and Corrective Action Program departments. Key Duties Performed by This Position Will Include

* Serve as a primary facilitator of a healthy nuclear safety culture and safety conscious work environment.
* Consistently improve health and safety performance within the organization.
* Build buy-in for health, safety, and environmental initiatives and create strategies for integrating safety principles into the culture of the organization.
* Establish, monitor, and continuously improve facility safety policies and practices.
* Ensure facility safety policies and procedures are consistent with overarching university guidelines.
* Establish strategic goals for the Health Physics and Safety function. Monitor progress through establishing and monitoring meaningful performance metrics.
* Plan and direct Health Physics and Safety in a manner that supports organizational mission and priorities.
* Monitor Health Physics and Safety training systems and operational impact and effectiveness.
* Ensure the latest and best industry practices are adopted.
* Lead a team of workforce and staffing initiatives for Health Physics and Safety to ensure timely and professional execution of functional goals.
* Embrace, demonstrate and lead for organizational culture goals, including regulatory goals such as a Safety Conscious Work Environment. Set expectations for civil, professional behavior.
* Actively pursue interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation throughout MURR and with the broader campus Environmental Health and Safety function
* Develop and monitor annual divisional expense/revenue budgets. Ensure regulatory compliance as applicable to health physics and safety.
* Ensure regulatory compliance as applicable to Health Physics and Safety.
* Maintain expert-level and current professional/industry knowledge in nuclear, industrial, and laboratory safety.
* Effectively represent the organization in internal and external interactions and communications.
* Develop and maintain a broad understanding of the organization and its functions and mechanics.
* Mentor and develop staff for succession and depth.
* Commit to ongoing continuous improvement activities focused on efficiency and effectiveness of Health Physics and Safety.
* Participate and represent MURR in industry organizations.

Shift

Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. plus evenings and weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Additional licensures are necessary as required by regulatory authorities.

Preferred Qualifications

* BS in Nuclear Engineering or Health Physics
* Certified Health Physicist (CHP)
* Strong nuclear sector leadership experience
* Nuclear regulatory training and/or experience
* Radiological leadership training and/or experience
* Strong ability to manage projects and teams
* Minimum of 7 years of experience in health physics, environmental health and safety, construction or industrial environments, or related industry
* Demonstrated track record as a people leader

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
Grade: GGS MKT
