In collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Education, Rutgers University is currently implementing the New Jersey Tier System of Supports for Early Reading (
NJTSS-ER) Project, an initiative funded by a U.S. Department of Education - Office of Special Education Programs (
OSEP) grant to advance data-driven reading instructional supports in early elementary grades (K-3). The purpose of this project is to build capacity to implement
NJTSS-ER via strategic school personnel development that includes synchronous and asynchronous training accompanied by coaching of school district leaders throughout New Jersey. The project aims to (a) increase state-, district-, and school-level capacity to implement
NJTSS-ER; (b) increase the fidelity of
NJTSS-ER implementation; and improve reading skills for K-3 students, including those with disabilities and/or requiring intervention. |

GSAPP
NJTSS-ER Project team.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Interprets, communicates, and implements policies to lead professional development for multiple school districts.
- Develops resources, training presentations, and materials to build capacity for NJTSS-ER implementation.
- Provides guidance, ongoing support, and collaborative coaching in both individual and group settings with school district teams.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Masters degree required in education or a related field.
- Three (3) years of school teaching and/or administration experience.

Certifications/Licenses |
|
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Experience as school consultants and/or instructional coaches with expertise in evidence-based reading instruction/intervention, multi-tiered systems of support, and student reading assessments.
- Knowledge of evidence-based reading assessments and interventions and evidence of being an effective consultant and/or instructional coach at the system level.
- Computer skills in Word or a comparable program for publishing reports.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
- Specialized knowledge of evidence-based reading assessments and interventions, consultation/coaching, and effective teaching.
- Experience as an instructional coach or consultant in facilitating mult-tiered systems of support for student with early reading concerns, including those at risk for or with disabilities.
