If so, we 're looking for someone like you to join our APL team.

We are seeking a motivated and creative Senior Certification Expert with cryptographic experience who can:

  • Help guide our sponsors through the high-grade certification process for high assurance cryptographic devices.
  • Interpret the requirements documents such as the Security Evaluation Requirements Document (SERD).
  • Work on research teams staffed with world-class experts to perform research and development improving the state-of-the-art in cryptographic security and the certification process
  • Work alongside engineers and scientists who are passionate about innovation and are driven to make a real difference in defending our nation.
  • Help our sponsors understand the development of requirements for high-grade solutions.
  • Review documentation from our sponsors and their commercial partners to ensure NSA requirements are met.
  • Work on a team that will guide our sponsors through an analysis of alternatives to select the best solution for their needs.
  • Share knowledge by clearly articulating ideas through papers and presentations to technical staff, management, and government. Take advantage of opportunities to participate in working groups, sponsor meetings, proposal writing, and conferences.

Qualifications

You meet the minimum qualifications for this position if you have:

  • Bachelor's in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a combination of equivalent level experience/education/certifications.
  • 10+ years of experience in evaluation and certification of high-grade security encryption devices.
  • Experience with interpretation of and application of NSA requirements to high-grade cryptographic device development.
  • Ability to understand the certification process and suggest improvements.
  • An understanding that limited travel may be required.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have:

  • Master's/Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience in evaluation and certification of high-grade security encryption devices.
  • Experience with interpretation of and application of NSA requirements to high-grade cryptographic device development.
  • Expertise in NSA security requirements and the ability to suggest improvements to the certification process.
  • Experience writing technical papers and presenting results to conferences/workshops.
  • Familiarity with a range of cyber-security concepts, such as network and host-based security, cryptography, trusted systems, and vulnerability/exploit discovery.
  • Current DoD clearance and prior experience working with Government agencies.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
