https://enpl.uark.edu/ Summary of Job Duties:The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting research investigating the molecular, genetic, and virulence diversity and biology of plant pathogenic fungi, oomycetes, and viruses on various agriculture crops. Additionally, the applicant will manage the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, train and assist students and staff, supervise hourly personnel, and manage a large portfolio of greenhouse, field, and laboratory experiments. Specific responsibilities and duties include designing and conducting experiments, data analyses, publication of results in scientific journals, and general laboratory management.

As a full-time lab member, this position includes responsibility for maintaining safety standards and meeting regulatory requirements, and general laboratory maintenance including maintenance of culture collections, lab supply inventory and general lab organization. Qualifications:

Minimum

  • BS in a Life Science
  • 1 Year Lab Experience

Preferred

  • Graduate Level Coursework in Plant Pathology or related field
  • Experience in bioassays with plant pathogens (foliar and soil borne), characterization of molecular and genetic diversity of plant pathogens, and population biology. Primary research tasks will involve nucleic acid preparation for high-throughput sequencing, qPCR, fungal isolation and growth, and greenhouse plant maintenance. The selected individual must be comfortable tracking and working with large sample formats and databases.
  • Statistical analysis of data experimental data.
  • Written and oral presentations of scientific data.
  • Previous experience training and supervising students, hourly workers, and visiting scientists.
  • Required skills include the isolation and identification of fungal, oomycete, and viral plant pathogens In addition proficiency in performing molecular biology techniques such as DNA extraction and PCR. The successful candidate needs to be highly organized, have experience in scientific data record keeping, and maintaining a collection of laboratory techniques. Design, conduct and assist with greenhouse and field trials on fungal diseases on different crops, sample collection, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, and contribution to resulting reports to funding agencies.The ability to thoroughly document experimental procedures and findings.
  • The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work well individually and in a team.
