Job Description

The Senior Category Manager is an industry subject matter expert within Cornerstone Building Brands and is responsible for creating and driving sourcing value for the packaging category. This person will collaborate with procurement, business unit and functional leadership to generate ongoing value for Cornerstone Building Brands through category strategy management.

This position will align internal and external customer needs with marketplace opportunities to optimize the procurement value proposition. The Category Manager will also assist in driving continuous improvement of related supply chain processes throughout Cornerstone Building Brands. This role is expected to provide expertise to business leaders in planning and implementing supply chain strategies to achieve business goals and objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead creation and implementation of advanced category management strategies for Packaging leveraging deep market expertise designed to anticipate enterprise-wide requirements while optimizing forecasted shifts in both supply markets, industry trends and supplier economic cycles
  • Lead market intelligence gathering and presentation, assimilating information into actionable projects that drive value
  • Strategically partner with team members, business unit and functional leaders by providing subject matter expertise and best practice for sourcing opportunities
  • Lead the development and negotiation of contracts with new suppliers and/or renegotiate existing contracts to accomplish lowest total system cost and savings objectives. Deliver ongoing value improvements while driving competitive advantage
  • Execute savings tracking activities and report realized savings on a continuous basis. Develop savings pipeline to drive long term value generation in line with category strategy
  • Build and manage relationships with business unit teams, to enable implementation of business strategies through team alignment, facilitate a process to coordinate those goals, and closely collaborate with teams to drive value through advanced sourcing levers
  • Demonstrates a strategic business mindset, influential leadership, organizational savvy, presents an executive-level presence, and balances multiple stakeholder interests simultaneously
  • Conduct spend analyses on categories and reporting, supplier stratification, supply market and category industry research
  • Monitor supplier performance and conduct supplier reviews in accordance with supplier performance program
  • Engage in ethical procurement practices which includes compliance with corporate and departmental policies and procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations
  • Display leadership behaviors aligned with CBB values and success model to drive a culture that embodies safety, teamwork, innovation and integrity

Qualifications

SKILLS

  • Expert knowledge in the packaging industry, inclusive of wood products (pallets, crates and lumber), corrugated, films and labels with a deep understanding of global supply chains as well as key market players. Active participant in industry associations and/or trade groups that expand industry knowledge
  • Uses industry expertise and market trends to develop and champion long-term category strategy from a corporate-wide perspective; leverages knowledge of should cost to provide business unit partners cost data for decision making
  • Ability to drive value through procurement methodology grounded in category management, incorporating a total cost of ownership approach across a global supply chain
  • Collaborates with business unit operations and supply chain partners to execute value driving projects. Demonstrates the ability to be an influential leader; actively listens to points of view, effectively persuade others to listen, commit, and act on a new approach
  • Strategic mindset. Effectively presents complex topics in a concise manner to audiences at various levels and in various sizes
  • Self-driven, with the ability to manage change, ambiguity and complexity, creating consensus with focus on results
  • Advanced analytical ability and financial acumen; Broad understanding of business issues, metrics, organizational linkages, and customer value

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree required with preference in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or equivalent work experience. MBA a plus
  • 8+ years of supply chain experience required, 10 of which require experience in strategic sourcing or category management in packaging preferably in a large multi-site manufacturing organization
  • Current member or representative in industry association and/or trade group, a plus
  • Experience with packaging category management; proven execution of core category management skills and advanced sourcing levers
  • Requires expertise in operating Microsoft Office programs
  • Certifications preferred but not required: CPSM, PMP, Lean, and Six Sigma
