The mission contributes to developing and sustaining North Carolina and global economies and advancing the profession.
Essential Job Duties
The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a dynamic and proactive Site Director to support our 250-acre Centennial Biomedical Campus that includes state-of-the-art teaching hospital and research facilities, working and teaching farms, and educational facilities. The individual will provide planning, coordination, and project management of building projects and construction management for the CVM. The Site Director is responsible for the overall facilities and facility operations for research, teaching, and clinical spaces (in coordination with CVM and University Units). The Director will provide oversight of new construction, remodeling, upfit, maintenance, and utility upgrades. The Director will coordinate campus and state approvals for all of the above.

The Site Director is the central person for all building-related projects and operations with the College of Veterinary Medicine. The Director's responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with the Facilities Division for routine maintenance/repairs, minor and major renovation projects, capital projects, and any large or unresolvable issues.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with the University Architects Office for space planning and tracking metrics and the University Real Estate office.
  • Manage contracts with private service providers for environmental and health safety monitoring.
  • Coordinate with utility provider/university facilities for system outages, site lighting and emergency repairs
  • Establish timelines, flow charts and plans of action, to aggressively initiate, execute and complete new construction and facility improvement projects in the most expedient and cost-effective methods.
  • Alert EH&S Division to all new equipment installations involving hazardous materials and/or processes and work with personnel to ensure safe installations and operations.
  • Manage office, lab, and equipment moves with moving companies and riggers.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with the Campus Planning and Strategic Investment for space planning, tracking metrics, and implementing the Physical Master Plan.
  • Assist research facility staff in responding to lab inspection findings related to physical spaces or utilities as needed.
  • Conduct project management, planning, and preparation of budgets for construction and renovation projects.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to university facilities division, EH&S, fire marshal, campus police, transportation, Security Applications and Technology, Athletics, and other departments and divisions on campus.
  • Coordinate post-construction activities, including representing the college for upfit design, purchasing of teaching, research, and studio equipment and furniture, occupancy and moving, telecommunications installations, office systems installations, and laboratory scientific equipment upfit.
  • Provide physical and mechanical oversight of all college-wide specialty laboratories, conference rooms, office, and communal spaces.
  • Review project plans and specifications, lead all direct interaction with architects and engineers, construction liaison, and serve as a technical advisor to unit leaders, staff, and faculty.
  • Serve as facilities liaison for all safety and security activities.
  • Serve on university and college committees as needed, including the college safety committee and the college space committee.
  • Manage maintenance and support housekeeping spaces.
  • Negotiate and manage maintenance contracts for building specialty systems, prepare bid documents and specifications.
  • Work to ensure facility security and safety, including developing and managing the access management processes. Make recommendations and implement improvements or changes at the direction of senior leadership.
  • Work closely with CVM Leadership and campus contractor personnel on the planning, design, scheduling, management, and review of all renovation, major repairs, and construction projects within the CVM.
  • Manage the emergency contact list for the college.

  • As assigned; On-call for after hour emergencies
Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Institutional Planning, Public Administration, Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, Economics, Industrial Technology or a related discipline and two years of facility and space planning experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Familiar with the fields of basic structures, standard construction, mechanical and electrical design in buildings, plus broad experience in laboratory operation and design for college and university teaching and research.
  • Working knowledge of NC building codes as they apply to safety and proper installation methods for all services in public buildings, in laboratory and industrial related operations.
  • Project management and fluency with a project management software program.
  • Service oriented attitude, excellent teamwork and listening skills, and appropriate computer literacy.
  • A strong candidate will be a reliable individual with excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registration as a professional Engineer or Architect in NC or commitment to becoming registered within a reasonable period of time.
  • Experience with architecture design for complex projects, strategic planning for the physical campus, and/or space planning & programming.
  • Experience working in a university and/or healthcare setting.
