POSITION SUMMARY:

The Microbiologist II is responsible for testing batches, raw materials, and finished goods for conformity to specifications. These tests include enumeration and specific organism detection by traditional plate methods. This person has gained enough experience to assist in investigating microbiological failures in the products and environments. This person is also adept and managing their workload and managing the media inventory based on routine and expected samples while balancing administrative tasks such as cleaning and updating documents.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:



  • Microbiological Testing

    • Able to complete the water and some finished product microbiological testing with high quality and aseptic techniques
    • Microbiological spread plate enumeration method
    • USP enrichment method
    • Using selective agars for pathogens
    • Perform basic organism identifications such as Gram staining, and traditional test methods such as catalase and Staph slide.
    • Environmental swabbing and cleaning validation collection and testing.
    • Send out isolates and report accugenix results
    • Growth promotion for media release
    • Recording environmental data in trending excel spreadsheet
    • Generate and complete EER's
    • Validation work for new test methods
    • Clean and maintain incubators, refrigerators, and autoclaves.
    • Interpret reports from RNA identifications


  • Chemical Testing Tasks

    • Titrations, pH, and routine batch testing.
    • ID testing by FTIR
    • ID testing following USP or other compendial standards
    • HPLC testing
    • GC testing
    • Training Analyst


  • Administrative support of the Lab

    • Monitoring inventory levels and ordering media
    • Accurately record and report test results
    • Ensure GLP responsibilities are completed on time
    • Archiving Data records
    • Reviews logs for completion and accuracy
    • Reviewing procedures, work instructions, and forms


  • Assist with investigations and conformances

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential accountabilities satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)



  • BS/BA degree in Chemistry or Biology
  • 3 years relevant experience in QC lab
  • ASQ CQA or other relevant certification preferred
  • Microsoft office suite
  • The Microbiologist II must be able to demonstrate the following:

    • Understands quality and compliance within the laboratory.
    • Know which regulations or standards are being applied to a specific product and understand the impact of noncompliance.
    • Able to review documentation to ensure compliance and
    • Are able to identify noncompliant test records.
