What is the Opportunity?

RBC is looking for a reserves engineer to support the evaluation and strategic development of the Canadian and United States corporate banking energy portfolios. We are looking for a registered professional engineer with extensive reserves evaluation and upstream energy experience in Canada and/or United States. The successful candidate will be a leader, senior member and an integral part of the reserves based lending and technical evaluations team, and will be a highly effective communicator and change agent. The dynamic engineering team manages seasonal activity peaks and tight deadlines while providing comprehensive, well thought-out evaluations advice.

What will you do?

  • Carry out and deliver technical asset and corporate evaluations for upstream E&P lending purposes (semi-annual borrowing base reviews, prospective clients, M&A, etc.) for RBC's Canadian and US E&P borrowers.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Corporate Banking and Risk Management, helping align RBC's perspective on borrower assets in their business discussions.

  • Provide technical knowledge of upstream production and development including the characteristics and status of existing plays within the productive basins in North America (WCSB, Permian, Marcellus, Haynesville, Eagle Ford, etc.), keeping current on emerging plays, existing and new technologies, regional energy and reserves reporting regulations.

  • Foster and maintain strong internal and external relationships by leveraging best-in-class technical expertise and clear, effective communication.

  • Participate in bank meetings and serve as the main point of contact between the engineering team, client companies and other syndicate bank engineers.

  • Critically assess the engineering team's workflow to identify opportunities for increased efficiency, ensuring the delivery of reliable, high-quality, and well substantiated work.

  • Travel required between Canada and US.

What do you need to succeed?

  • University degree with a focus on Engineering, Geology, or similar background, and currently licensed engineer or technical professional.

  • 12+ years of reserves evaluations and upstream energy technical engineering experience.

  • Extensive experience with reserves database and technical software programs (ValNav, Mosaic, Aries, PhDWin, Geoscout) and highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).

  • Team oriented with the ability to take initiative to do what it takes and manage to tight deadlines during semi-annual peak periods.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.

  • Strong financial analysis skills connecting reserves evaluations with corporate performance. and sustainability.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in evaluating offshore basins.

  • Financial designation such as CFA or MBA.

  • Supervisory experience.
