Beren Campus Scholar in Residence and Torah Educator

Position Summary:



The role of the Campus Scholar in Residence is to be on campus to serve as a religious educator, role model and mentor to the student body primarily through delivering shiurim, individual meetings and Shabbat/holiday programming.

This is a part-time position, working 19 hours per week.



Position Responsibilities:



Educational Programming


  • Collaborate with the Dean of Torah Studies and the Beren Campus Rabbi and Rebbetzin to design educational programming for religious life outside the classroom.



  • Deliver regular shiurim in the Beit Midrash and facilitate small group study sessions with students.



  • Develop new formal and informal educational opportunities, including creating curricula and program structures.




Shabbat on Campus




  • Oversee Shabbat programming and atmosphere on campus.



  • Collaborate with a student committee to enhance the Shabbat experience.



  • Plan and coordinate guest speakers and types of Shabbatons.



  • Organize student Divrei Torah presentations.



  • Be present on campus for Shabbat 3 out of every 4 weekends.




    • For 1 or 2 of those Shabbatot, attend and lead lunch or dinner and Seudah Shelishit.



    • For 1 or 2 of those Shabbatot, attend all three meals on campus.





  • Participate in periodic holiday celebrations and events.



  • Assist in planning and implementing major holiday observances (e.g., Chanukah, Purim, Shavuot, depending on the academic calendar).



  • Lead or support off-campus Shabbatons as assigned.




Student Engagement


  • Build proactive and meaningful relationships with students from diverse religious backgrounds.



  • Offer personal guidance and religious mentorship.



  • Connect students to resources and opportunities for religious growth in the New York area and beyond.



  • Represent and promote Yeshiva University's Jewish life to prospective students and their families.




Community Leadership


  • Actively participate in the Office of Undergraduate Torah Studies and collaborate with student-led clubs.



  • Serve as an advisor and Jewish resource for Beren Campus student groups.




Administrative Responsibilities


  • Attend regular meetings and events hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Torah Studies and the Office of Student Life.



  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Office of Undergraduate Torah Studies.




Residency Requirement


  • Reside in an on-campus apartment.





Experience & Educational Background:




  • A BA or MA in Judaic Studies, Education, or Social Work preferred.
  • At least two years of professional work experience.



Skills & Competencies:





  • An approachable, dynamic, and engaging personality with outstanding interpersonal skills.



  • Clear and effective verbal and written communications.



  • Skill and comfort in a technology-rich environment.



  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with multiple deadlines.



  • Ability to work flexible hours needed, including nights, weekends, and Jewish holidays.



  • Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.



  • Prior experience working with college students, with informal/experiential education.





Salary Range:



$20,000 - $20,000
