Job Summary

The Buyer is responsible for all procurement and purchasing activities for goods, services, equipment, tools, parts, supplies and raw materials for the plant. Duties include market research, competitor analysis, product evaluations, monitoring purchase orders and creating reports for the management team. Additionally, the Buyer is also responsible for performing a variety of administrative tasks that support our overall mission of delivering quality and value to the end user.

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in the manufacturing industry, proficiency utilizing SAP or similar ERP system, and possess a strong understanding of supply chain management concepts.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities



  • Prepares and modifies all standard purchasing orders and requisitions.
  • Monitors request for expediting of goods and material purchases.
  • Prepares bid requests and analysis.
  • Maintains purchasing logs and prepares reports relating to trends.
  • Assists in monitoring vendor invoices for pricing accuracy. Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability and delivery schedule.
  • Supports Cost Accountants and Inventory department with detailed information.
  • Supports manufacturing team by contacting vendors for "budgetary pricing" for equipment and materials within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or materials with quality control to determine source of defect and corrective action.
  • Ensures that all contact administration procedures are followed and executed in an accurate and professional manner.



Required Education, Experience and Qualifications



  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience or related field required.
  • Previous SAP purchasing experience required.
  • Thorough working knowledge of purchasing policies, processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to negotiate best vendor terms, pricing and delivery dates according to budgetary and schedule requirements.
  • Strong PC skills, ability to understand and apply basic math skills, and working knowledge of relevant software is critical.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work within a budget and avoid unnecessary costs incurred from delays including monitoring shipping/expediting costs.
  • Ability to plan and organize; have strong attention to detail, and good time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and ability to effectively problem solve.
  • Cooperative, team oriented, customer service oriented, patient, calm under pressure, and able to work independently.
