This position can be located in one of the following operations centers in the Midwest: Ohio, Kentucky or Indiana. The exact location will be determined at the time of offer based on business needs.

Position Summary

The Sr Contract Manager position is the Career level of the Contract Management classification Hierarchy.- extremely knowledgeable and experienced in enforcing the contracts and Scope & Method of Payments they are responsible for.

  • Both reactive and proactive in anticipation and response in matters relating to Contractor qualification, performance and results.

  • Serves as the expert single point contact for all PGO matters pertaining to their assigned region contracts and/or Enterprise contracts.

  • Responsible for problem identification, extent of condition and solution development by ensuring consistency with other regions by communicating effectively with their peers and other work groups.

Responsibilities
  • Executes routine contracts and purchase orders. Responsible for routine or standard form contract agreements and related documentation in accordance with established policies, procedures, and contract strategies. Ensures the business unit is utilizing contracts for all high and medium risk contractors.

  • Draft and provide input as subject matter expert related to contract RFP events, developing contract strategy, writing scope docs, questions, technical evaluations, vendor selections, negotiations, and amendments

  • Sr. Contract Managers are expected to have advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence, identify and resolve more complex problems.

  • Develop strong business relationships between Duke Energy PGO and its Contractor base to ensure the success of each organization. The Sr. Contract Manager shall be the single point of contact for both Duke and Contractor personnel to direct communications associated with fostering a strong business relationship and bringing attention to and assuring appropriate action is taken to address major issues and/or problems/performance. The Sr. Contract Manager shall strive to foster a strong relationship based on Operating Excellence (Operational Excellence = Results + Operational Discipline) while developing a comprehensive knowledge of the Contractor's business to understand its strengths and weaknesses in order to optimize the benefits that may be received from a Contractor.

  • Works closely with the business unit and peers to ensure contractor adherence is in compliance with policy and processes and aligned to ensure consistency across the enterprise. Demonstrates the ability to negotiate and gain consensus among a diverse business unit to ensure the contract is adhered to with minimal difference from region to region or zone to zone. Has the ability to provide the PGO business unit, leaders, peers, sourcing, etc., with the most cost effective and contractual guidance for issues or concerns that may arise and ensures the decisions are acceptable for implementation in all regions/zones.

  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize and analyze reports to discuss performance and trends associated to the suppliers that are managed by the Sr Contract Manager. Provides input to improve reports that are utilized by the Contract Management team and shares regional information to raise concerns that may need to be addressed at the enterprise level.

  • Identify, qualify, and evaluate potential Contractors for PGO. Validates suppliers are not being utilized to perform work without a contract in the regions/zones supported. Support and provide feedback to Sourcing/Supply Chain on the terms of new and existing Contracts through Supply Chain consistent with Corporate Policy and Practices. Assure appropriate level of detail exists in scope of work, skill requirements, performance expectations, and deliverables. Assure Contractors understand the requirements of the Contract. Define parameters for successful execution of all work requests. Work with stakeholder teams within PGO to establish pending as well as future Contractor needs.

  • Develop recommendations for contractor removal or Conditional approvals based on annual risk assessment and audit results (ex. Avetta red Flag). Compile contractor performance improvement plan (PIP) documentation to gain Sr. leadership approval. Follow PIP process including facilitation of PIP review meetings thru completion. Compile contractor performance review package working with for Sr Leadership conversations with contractor executives.

  • Work with the various Business Unit Stakeholders (BU) we serve to develop performance measures that monitor and validate Contractor performance against those measures. Monitor customer satisfaction with stakeholders for whom the services are being provided. Assure that Contractors are compliant with Duke Energy Corporation's requirements on safety and environmental stewardship. At the BU's request, facilitate calls or meetings between DE and our Contractors to address any concerns related to schedule slip, cost increases, environmental or safety concerns that do not meet our expectations.

  • Responsible for drafting the development, integration, implementation and execution of the processes associated with Contract strategies throughout the department.

Required/Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Procurement and Contracts Management or

  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management or

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or

  • Bachelors degree in Life Sciences or

  • Bachelors degree in Business or

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or

  • Bachelors degree in Other Related Degree

  • 4 years related work experience

  • In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 4 year(s) related work experience listed above, Associates AND 6 year(s) related work experience

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Related experience in construction, engineering, project management or contract management environments.

  • Project Management expertise.

  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrates ability to be innovative and visionary.

  • Demonstrates advanced effective conflict management and negotiating skills.

  • Possesses a strong working knowledge of contract work force including various skills and crafts.

  • Strong understanding of process-based organizations operations.

  • Demonstrates ability to work and lead in team environments and produce results.

  • Demonstrates ability to mine (analyze) data to provide stakeholders and contractors alike feedback on performance, including identification of negative trends to mitigate potential issues.

  • Demonstrates the understanding of stakeholder identification, ability to work with multiple business units within the company to achieve Operational Excellence.

  • Demonstrates the ability to identify the need for and facilitate crucial conversations between contractors and business unit representatives and their leaders.

  • Demonstrates proficiency with Maximo.

Specific Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, contract/construction management, engineering, accounting or life science, plus 4 years of related work experience

  • In lieu of college degree, associate's degree and 6 years of related work experience; OR High School Diploma/GED and 8 years related work experience

  • Broad knowledge of electric utility operations including transmission and/or distribution operations and demonstrated computer skills and Microsoft products, PowerBI, Avetta.
