Position Summary:
The Paralegal, Account Resolution (MVA) will provide administrative and paralegal support to the attorney staff in the MVA division. This individual will draft legal related documents pertaining to potential MVA lien enforcement actions, including, but not limited to, demand letters to liability carriers and plaintiff/patient attorneys, hospital lien documents, and settlement verification letters, on behalf of MVA counsel. This individual will also engage in account resolution through negotiation with carriers and attorneys representing patients within predetermined settlement authority provided by the MVA attorney team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Draft legal related documents pertaining to potential MVA lien enforcement actions, including, but not limited to, demand letters to liability carriers and plaintiff/patient attorneys, hospital lien documents, and settlement verification letters, on behalf of MVA counsel
  • Provides legal support to attorneys pertaining to accounts assigned to the MVA division
  • Identifies accounts that are approaching the statute of limitations for lien enforcement, if applicable, and notifies attorney team
  • Participates in settlement discussions, negotiations, and sends documentation upon attorney request
  • Drafts legal correspondence on behalf of attorney team
  • Supplies updates to the Operations and Legal team and is responsible for the resolution of large or troubled accounts and payers including receiving payments, negotiating accounts and settlement requests, and escalating internally or externally, when necessary, based on the MVA Account Resolution/Reduction SOP.
  • Develops and maintain a prioritized issue list and action plan to drive resolution of critical claims payment issues with clients and payers.
  • Responsible for working a queue of accounts that have been deemed "high priority" due to some combination of reduction request, balance, payer assignment, age, or other criteria as determined by management.
  • Other duties as required.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Paralegal Certification (or equivalent degree in Paralegal Studies) from an ABA program or college
  • 2 years of prior paralegal experience
  • Experience in negotiation on behalf of a law firm/attorney, preferred.
  • Must have strong computer proficiency and understand how to use basic office applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of legal terminology
  • Understanding of civil litigation processes and/or personal injury claims
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

  • Must be able to exchange accurate information when communicating with clients, payers, co-workers and management.
  • Must be able to remain in stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Infrequent travel may be required.
