Title: Criminal Investigator/ Crime Investigator (Forensic/criminal justice /law)

Payrate: $32.68/hr on W2 without benefits

Location: 4 Howard Ave Cranston, R.I., 02908

Duration: 36 Months

Hrs./week: 35 hrs.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the reporting requirements set-forth by the project's grant manager.
  • Act as the RIAG's Cold Case Liaison with the RI Department of Health's Forensic Laboratory.
  • Support the Project Manager of the "Closure Project" with data collection and reporting as needed for USDOJ grant reporting purposes.
  • Promptly complete all required reports as needed, following the proper procedures and policies associated with the report request.
  • Receive and fulfill requests from the RIAG Cold Case Unit Team.
  • Track all RIAG requests made to the RIDOH Forensic Laboratory.
  • Conduct cold case file searches.
  • Locate evidence at RIDOH or an off-site storage facility, following the proper procedures and policies.
  • Attend a weekly Cold Case Meeting at the RIAG-BCI Office and other meetings as required.
  • Other tasks as they relate to Cold Case Investigations.


Qualifications:

  • Critical thinking skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory procedures and policies is a plus, but not required; training will be provided.
  • Working knowledge of forensics/criminal justice systems/law is preferred.
  • Excellent written communication skills and time management skills are required.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft 365, including Outlook and Teams, and ability to learn new software as needed.
  • The ability to attend meetings off-site during the day is required; therefore, reliable transformation.
  • The ability to work nights and weekends as needed, with proper notice, is required.


Required Experience and Education:

  • 3-5 years of experience working in the Criminal Justice field or a related field.
  • A college degree is required, preferably in forensic science, human sciences, data science, criminal justice, law, sociology, physiology, or related studies.
