Introduction

The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking a talented and motivated individual to serve as a Prevention Specialist in the Prevention Intervention program. Job Summary

The Prevention Specialist performs universal interventions promoting overall health, wellness, and resilience for the Loudoun County community and provides selective interventions for youth who have been identified as high-risk for adverse childhood experiences.

Primary responsibilities include:
* Leads interventions in after school and summer prevention programs that focus on youth who are identified as high-risk for adverse childhood experiences.
* Provides school-based prevention and intervention services including implementing evidence-based prevention and intervention curriculum in high need schools.
* Provides evidence-based prevention strategies to promote pro-social engagement and decrease risk factors for substance abuse, gangs, violence, suicide, and other negative social determents of health.
* Collaborates with other programs, agencies and/or community stakeholders to provide appropriate behavioral health prevention and intervention strategies.
* Conducts community outreach and education; consult with community agencies, groups, and service providers.
* Transports individuals utilizing Loudoun County vehicles which may include a 12-person van.
* Complies with applicable Federal, State, County, Department, and Division policies, procedures, and regulations; completes required training and policy and process reviews.


Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in related field
* One (1) year of professional work experience working with high- risk youth or a mental health and/or substance use disorder and/or prevention services; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred.
* Prefer certification as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

* Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid, HIPPA, Therapeutic Options (TO), and OSHA required certifications.
