PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Director of Lift Operations provides leadership and strategic oversight for all lift operations at Deer Valley Resort. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and guest-focused lift services that align with Deer Valley's commitment to excellence. The Director drives long-term planning, operational excellence, team development, and cross-departmental collaboration to support the resort's mission and business goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership & Department Oversight

  • Set the strategic direction for Lift Operations, ensuring alignment with Deer Valley's mission, guest service standards, and long-range goals
  • Develop and execute operational plans to improve safety, efficiency, and the overall guest experience
  • Lead long-term planning, goal setting, and performance management across the department
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement by identifying trends, opportunities, and emerging technologies in lift operations


Team & Culture Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing team through intentional talent development, coaching, and succession planning
  • Promote a culture rooted in safety, collaboration, accountability, and the Deer Valley Difference (DVD) values
  • Ensure comprehensive training programs are in place for all lift operations staff, from onboarding through leadership development


Operational Excellence & Safety

  • Ensure consistent delivery of safe, seamless loading and unloading experiences at all lift terminals
  • Oversee daily operational procedures, safety inspections, and emergency response readiness
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of safety checks, employee performance, and incident reports
  • Collaborate with Lift Maintenance and Ski Patrol to ensure lift safety, readiness, and guest service excellence


Financial Management & Resource Planning

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, staffing models, and capital needs in alignment with resort priorities
  • Analyze performance metrics to inform resource allocation, drive efficiency, and reduce costs without compromising quality
  • Coordinate procurement and inventory management of operational supplies


Cross-Departmental Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a key liaison between Lift Operations and resort leadership, participating in resortwide planning and decision-making
  • Collaborate with departments including Ski School, Mountain Operations, Guest Services, and Safety to ensure a seamless guest experience
  • Engage external partners and vendors to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in lift operations or mountain operations at a ski resort (Deer Valley experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated success in leading high-performing teams and managing large-scale, safety-sensitive operations
  • Advanced understanding of ski lift systems and relevant safety standards
  • Intermediate skiing ability and the ability to operate a snowmobile in varied terrain and conditions
  • Strong interpersonal, decision-making, and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs on occasion


DATES OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Year Round


PAY RATE:

  • Pay: $95,000 - 110,000 per year
  • Annual salary, commensurate with experience
