Job Summary

The Anatomy Learning Center (ALC) Manager is an experienced professional operating in a highly proficient technical role that knows how to apply theory and put it into practice an in-depth understanding of specialized work with cadavers to coordinate multiple professional health education programs using the laboratory, and maintain program operations.

The incumbent is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and auditing information databases, inventory and supplies, laboratory equipment, and software. They are a steward of cadavers and cadaveric materials and work with the ALC administrator and the Willed Body Program to ensure course fulfilment by coordinating delivery and receiving, and enforcing proper labeling, storage, and respectful treatment of donors. They will oversee the anatomical materials database and communicate specimen labeling and storage changes by performing regular inventory checks.

In addition to the aforementioned laboratory oversight, the incumbent may oversee up to (2) part-time ALC assistants. In this role they will assist with coordination of scheduling and provide guidance to ensure after hours coverage is supported through flex coverage, the Center Technician, and per diem needs.

The incumbent is an essential position to the daily function and long-term care of the UCSF Anatomy Learning Center (ALC) on the Parnassus campus and actively participates in exemplifying UCSF's mission and PRIDE values.. This position will require flexible scheduling to coordinate evening and weekend courses and provision of laboratory support outside normal business hours.

***NOTES: This is a full-time 1-year Contract role. Monday-Friday, 7a-4pm, with flexibility to cover weekend and after-hours courses.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $83,700 - $125,600 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Anatomy Learning Center (ALC) provides training for health professions education programs for the University which includes 3,500 faculty, 2,100 health professions students, and 1,500 residents and fellows. Simultaneous classes, independent study, training and research often occur in the ALC. The Center is managed by the Office of Medical Education and works closely with the Willed Body Program to provide cadaveric training.

The ALC is a 6,000-square-foot space that opened in 2012 with state-of-the-art architecture, featuring a 36-air-exchange per hour ventilation system, a multipurpose room, HD screens, energy-regenerating sinks, accessible power outlets, and floods of natural light. The main laboratory houses 32 dissection tables, a prep room, and two locker rooms. Located on the 13th floor with views of Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, and on most days, the Golden Gate Bridge.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and /or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working with cadavers or cadaveric specimens.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience facilitating, leading, or organizing team communications, or a combination of interprofessional administrative-task ownership.
  • Experience managing inventory and implementing order needs.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Solid knowledge of health professions education program requirements. Thorough knowledge of health professions education industry.
  • Demonstrated experience and documented excellence in oral and written communications skills; includes active listening and critical thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others. Strong problem solving skills to assist learners and resolve issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in related area preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes and systems. Thorough knowledge of the administrative and operational implications in a program.
  • Thorough knowledge of educational software and platforms. Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance the user experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program. Skills include statistical analysis of data across databases and systems.
  • Experience working in an academic laboratory environment.
  • Experience working in a BSL-2 laboratory setting.
  • Experience working outside normal business hours with demonstrated ability to manage time.
