The Med Surg ICU Physician Assistant (PA) II is a member of the multidisciplinary Med Surg ICU provider team with patient care responsibilities. The Med Surg ICU is comprised of medical, emergency surgery, and general surgery critical care patients. The multidisciplinary care team consists of intensivist attendings from Surgery, Anesthesiology, Pulmonary Medicine, and Emergency Medicine and advanced practice providers.
The PA reports to the Med Surg ICU Chief PA, Medical Director and administratively to the Administrative Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Daily supervision is provided by the attending intensivist covering each Med Surg ICU.
The PA II position is designed for those physician assistants who have advanced clinical skills and who are experienced enough to take on additional clinical, administrative, and/or leadership responsibilities above that of a PA I. The PA II position entails those responsibilities defined by the department/division that will become part of the performance evaluation process.

2 years of experience as a PA required required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
