Product Design Engineer

This key role isresponsible for driving the product design process through all phases of the product lifecycle from conceptualization to prototyping and manufacturing. A little about you

* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3 years or more of experience in Engineering and/or Quality.

* Experience with SolidWorks, OnShape, or other 3D modeling software.

* Plastic part design experience is preferred.

* 3 years or more supplier quality, manufacturing, and engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience working with Asian suppliers is strongly preferred.

* Training and demonstrated competence in use of PPAP, FMEA, 8D CAPA, Control Plans, and SPC.

* Knowledge of the following manufacturing processes: zinc die casting, injection molding, rubber molding, plating, machining, and forging.

* Proficiency in MS Office software applications.

* Must be able to read, write, and understand tooling drawings, engineering component drawings, assembly drawings, and engineering standards.

* Excellent judgment, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

* Must have willingness and ability to work in a team based environment.

* Must be able to manage multiple projects at one time.

Day-to-Day Work Examples

* Drives and leads PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) as required for assigned parts. Reviews and approves supplier PPAP submissions to ensure that they are submitted and complete per organizational requirements.

* Initiate concepts and create new product designs by preparing 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, renderings, and supporting documentation; able to update and adapt existing products to market trends.

* Design, develop and implement data management requirements, and end user documentation/installation instructions.

* Develops necessary packaging per part requirements. For base unit and master packaging.

* Initiate and ensure the continuous improvement of good engineering design, practices and procedures. This includes implementing redesign to improve manufacturing cost and to eliminate potential field problems.

* Assists quality department with product corrective actions and root cause analysis.

* Works directly with Sourcing on execution of changing suppliers and ensures, when required, seamless product migrations to different suppliers.

* Identifies and coordinates necessary regulatory testing and compliance per product.

* Other duties may be assigned as required by the PPG Director of Engineering and Quality.

* Travel up to 20%, some international travel may be required.
